Is there any updates on the new VA lounge in CNS (Cairns AP). Has anyone got any further info or dates?

It can only be an improvement on what would have to be one of the worst designed Airports in Australia.

Cant come soon enough, Cairns airport is a Zoo.

CNS is a shopping mall with parking for planes.. Is it not, the best example of how NOT to build an airport?

Reminds me of a cattle sale yard. Mustering up the animals into pens then sending them off.

So the multi M$ upgrade to the domestic not good enough?, gee I've not found that at all, its spacious & modern, parking always get available, drop off / collection kerbside placed near entrances. I use the QFF lounge its excellent, with a new VA lounge addition will make it even better.

Dont know what it was like before, but I dont like it now. As with all opinions other people will hav etheir own differing opinions, and in true AFF form, the flamethrowers will be swiftly returned to service, because I have a different opinion. I just think its a coughhole airport terminal, Fullstop.

Anecdote from when I was in investment banking, when the airports were being initially privatised (mid/late 1990s).

Talking about Darwin airport; at that time the terminal building was relatively new and I was using it a fair bit.

Client rep " Darwin airport is a DISASTER. If we get hold of it, we'll have to almost totally re-build the terminal. Worth little to us as is. Lots of capex needed"

I thought ... "Gee that's strange; I know that terminal well. You go straight to check-in, then up the escalator, then to the lounge or straight to your gate. Works really well."

The client rep goes on: "Yes, we also operate <airport in the UK- can't remember> and there, you can't go from check-in to your gate without passing through or past about 100 shops. Retail is where we make money - the planes can be a nuisance some times".

At another discussion, the client wondered aloud if the Brisbane SkyTrain, then under construction or recently opened, could be prevented from stopping at the airport. Hmmm.. sounds a bit illogical I thought. Turns out he was looking at the potential impact on the airport's take from taxis using the airport. Train means fewer taxi pax.

I was just told by checking that is going to be open in may. Don't know which one to go by.
