Just noticed a post on VFF facebook regarding a new business class memory foam mattress and linen range for all international long haul services. Hoping it will end complaints I read of sore hips! I get to try them out in October to LA!

I would have been happier to read about new seats and not new mattresses.

Yeah Ill be doing a return flight in Aug. I welcome the change.

Apparently they are coming.

Im wondering why spend money on new accessories IF they were planning on updating the entire class? I would be thrilled if they upgrade the seats but this makes me wonder if they are doing another soft upgrade but keeping the old hardware.

Guess I'll be trying it out in October as well. The extra padding will be nice under the hip as I'm a side sleeper mostly.

I did wonder about this too. It does seem counterproductive and made me think it might be an IF.

But must admit happy to have any comfort improvement for my upcoming trip. Would have loved new seats but that was never going to happen by October. Ill be interested to hear feedback about this new "soft" improvement.

Apparently they are coming.

While I was on the phone to the Velocity CS team earlier, I mentioned the rumour of new seats being installed and the response was, "Why would they do that. They just got new memory foam mattresses." (she said it nicely/with a smile).

Flew from SYD to AUH a few days ago with the new mattress.
  1. The mattress takes up significant storage space in the Business Class cabin. Hopefully another location can be found to store the mattresses when not in-use.
  2. The mattress with duvet is an extremely warm combination. I overheard a couple behind me suggesting that it should come with a warning label!

Had you experienced hip pain on the J product before? Did it fix this?

Just flew this 2 days ago. Was very hot sleeping on the new memory foam. FA did say that the new seats are due to be installed when the planes go into heavy maintenance.

Heres my dilemma. I have row 5 booked but I really want the seats upgraded. Is it selfish to want new seats and still have row 5....

Oh this is bad news for me. I am already really hot in this seat when attempting to sleep.

I get pretty warm normally, and on some flights (and cold on others) - depends on the cabin temp.
I'm in row 5 at the moment both directions, and one way noone's next to me in the window (woo!) so I'll just take clothes off if it gets too hot :D

Me too. Last time I slept on the mattress and doona for the extra padding. And didn't bother with the long sleeve pj top.

People get weirded out with feet on the bulkhead, can you just imagine the thousand tweets this would launch.

I just flew SYD - LAX on the new mattresses, and my view is that they are such an outstanding improvement to the point of being the most comfortable business class bed I have flown. They are a little warmer than the old 'mattress', but that is well and truly made up for with the significant comfort upgrade.

Congrats to Virgin on small improvements like this. They make a huge difference.
