Hi All,

I start a new job in 3 weeks and am so excited that it will include quite a bit of travel (international mainly, but there may be domestic)

Anyway, I am a Qantas person (I know not everyone on this forum is) and found it interesting how many ways people find to collect Freq Flyer points :)

Cheers :D

Travel in a job scenario as an experience can vary greatly on what the company policy is, its not unusual to travel in your own time for instance. While its a good way to seeing new places, try and maximise the opportunity, often you will go to a location and not see much at all.

When I first started a lot of travel 14 years ago working for a US IT Multinational, I often tacked an extra couple of days onto a trip and spent the weekend prior or post meetings exploring the country I was visiting, I figures the cost of a couple of nights in a hotel was a lot cheaper than a separate trip later. Good luck in your new job, and may those 6AM (5AM in QLD) starts be few in number.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yep... don't travel in "your" time. Always do it on the clock. No more 5am flights :)

+1.

None of that cough anymore for me. Those OMG o'clock flights are pretty much a thing of the past.

Good luck with the new job ScumGold. What line of work have you got yourself into that involves travel?

ScumGold,

Welcome to AFF.

Another with a name that will be misleading if their status ever changes to Platinum, or heaven forbid back to pleb :!: :D  :(

Yeah, the job has me staying overseas a few weeks at a time so I'll hopefully see some sites now and then.

Hi,

You may be a Qantas person....but what is your goal in terms of FF?

Is it to aquire points for travel.....status to ease you many paid trips.... etc..

Depending what you want to achieve it may pay to think more boradly than just Qantas.

Think alliance..think Oneword and *A.

If you havea lot of international flights it is likely that you will fly on both alliances. Depending which Airlines are involved it may pay to direct points to different airlines.
remember too that staus can be more easily earnt and/or retained on various airlines.

While you are thinking Qantas...maybe AAmay be a better Oneworld Airline for you to push points to.

Anyway...my tip is to run some likely scenarios and actively think which airline, or airlines, may be best for you.

It may be Qantas...or it may be another arline like AA.

And remember even if you mainly push points to AA you can still be a QC member.

Yeah sorry. I should have stated. I like Qantas, but I am more than willing to fly other metal to get my FFP's up.
So my aim for now is to max out on Qantas by flying OneWorld.
