JETSTAR'S new boss has ambitious expansion plans that will see the low-cost carrier further expand in Asia and introduce Boeing 787 operations from bases outside Australia.

In contrast to the fear and gloom sweeping much of the industry, Bruce Buchanan sees a bright future for the Qantas offshoot.

"I think it's a great opportunity to be taking over the business at this point in time," Buchanan said in a wide-ranging interview with The Australian this week.

An interesting story, thanks.

In the longer term, flights to Europe are still on the agenda and

This is what I'm interested in or waiting for - Europe. back in 2007 they talked about Munich as a distination. Anyone prepared to speculate on timeframe for Jet* to fly to Europe. Or even rank how high on the agenda Europe might be? I suppose this depends on how long it takes them to bed down Asian routes. So maybe with the 787 delays and all, not until 2010?
