I am a bit confused by the wording in the fair conditions for the new international Economy Flex class. http://www.qantas.com.au/regions/amadeus/minirules/AUEUFLEX/

Are they saying a No Show gets charged $500 then the rest of the refund conditions apply, however a straight cancellation (assuming min 24 hours before?) you skip the first step and jump straight to full refund?

No Show
  • For tickets issued on/after 15 May 14
  • A no show fee of A$500 per person applies.
  • Additional local service fees and taxes may apply, plus any fare difference.

Cancellations (including no show)
  • Before departure:
  • Except where no show fee applies:
    • Full refund

Then goes on to say "This fare may be used as credit towards the payment of any higher fare from the point of origin, provided the new fare conditions are met.".

So i
f I cancel before departure, do I get a refund (as in cash back) or is it just credit?

I have asked questions on the QF Facebook page previously including links to the pages I would like clarification on, and each time they say to see the website! I have to stop myself to replying with "You @#%# @^$%E#@^%$ &%#$, read the question!" The last question I asked was would the points required to upgrade from the new Y Flex still only be discounted for Y or would it be updated to include all three buckets in the Y Flex group (you know, a nice simple YES/NO answer would suffice), I included a link to the points upgrade table. The QF Facebook response was that the website had the information. 3 weeks later it has been changed to now include lower upgrade rates for all buckets in the Flex group!!!!

Perhaps I should ask the question on the Facebook page with a link to the conditions, and see if they tell me to check the conditions on the website!

I am also interested to see what the go with the upgrade levels are. It seems to be an afterthought that the levels don't seem to allign with the new structures and fare names and levels.

The default state is a credit and you can get a refund of that on request.

Thanks markis10. As long as I wont lose my money I will book and secure the seats now, and then keep an eye out for a better deal. I didn't fancy having $13k tied up in QF!

The site is very buggy currently - I would love a straight answer regarding the upgrades. I have a booking which stated at the time of booking that the Upgrade consideration would be Economy, yet the upgrade calculations are showing as Discount Economy - total PITA.

I believe they have fixed the tables, so now post 1 July, all Flex Economy get upgrades at lower rates, not just Y.

1 July 2014, for international flights: a) Economy includes classes G, K, L, M, S and V; and b) Flexible Economy includes classes B, H and Y

Perhaps an actual enhancement in the new system!?!

I haven't checked it recently but it would be nice if it were sorted.

Don't get too excited, I might have spoken too soon!

Have currently been on the phone to QF for 30 mins and 4 different people trying to explain to them that according to the fair conditions on my ticket and the table on their website it is 60,000 not 96,000 to upgrade SYD-LHR for travel post 30 June. At their end, computer says no!

If I had the 800,000 points required to request the upgrade at that level for the four of us I would just do it, but with only 600,000 (plenty for the reduced level) the best option they have come up with so far is just to try and request after 1 July!

Did I mention that when I tried to do it on line, pressing the "Request Upgrade" button just tells me the system is having trouble with my booking and to phone instead, so I couldn't even get far enough to see what the online system would try to charge!

I would wait until July 2nd and then try again online. If that still doesn't work, call up and see what the QF computer says!
