New Insurance Loophole on Credit Cards

. With airlines, once you're in, you're in. Splitting points and spend between airlines isn't a viable option for a lot of people.

While I understand what you say (and particularly for those with work paid flights to airlines that they do not choose), for me one of my FF Eureka moments was when I abandoned the shackles and limitations of thinking one airline, or even one alliance and I have never looked back since.

And even for those with less resources than I such as my daughter who is just 3 years into her post Uni working life multi airline FF/ multi alliance thinking allows her to earn and burn a lot better than if she stuck to one airline and one FF Program. Not everyone want to think on how best acquire and burn though.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

. And then some that just fall through the cracks, like ANZ platinum. Low limit, low annual fee, great insurance product with low trigger. But no points earning.

Ah, ANZ the gift horse that keeps on giving. What is there not to like? :)

It has provided me now with many years of free and cheaply activated TI, normally hundreds of thousands of FF Points (To QFF, KF and Velocity) per year, no fees in the main, and all at only the cost of spending $5-10K per year on the cards with them (which earns some points too). And until recently some cashback deals too!

This is NOT a loophole. This is a clearly stated term. Terrorist events or acts of civil unrest or war either authorised or otherwise have usually been excluded from policies. This is not new.

Agreed. What is new is a propensity for the government, media or some other party to deem or claim that any disturbance is an act of 'terror' where previously it might have been called a crime or political disturbance / fracas / riot.

So while the exclusion might have been there forever, it is more likely / more often invoked these days.

With TI for example many people are blissfully unaware that their TI policy may not cover them when they think they are.

For example:
  • Go on a Quad Bike Tour which are very popular . Some policies specifically exclude coverage for Quad bikes even if you have a bike license, or are even just the passenger (presumably as quad bikes are very unstable)

As we learnt the hard way in Namibia! The reason they're not covered is the risk of serous injury is so ridiculously high.
