Hi Everyone,

There's a new site, currently only for the Virgin Blue traveller that gives all the latest arrival and departure information:

megamon.com/plane

Let us know what you think! Would it be worth adding Qantas and Jetstar?

Thanks,

Megamon Team

Certainly useful, although the info would be available in multiple sources.

Love how the planes are tracked on a map, very cool.

If you had multiple airlines it would be better, though you'd have to be able to turn them on and off or else I can see that map getting very cluttered very fast.

Looks like one of the flights is lost. Flight 182 (TBU - SYD) is currently off the coast of Brazil over the Atlantic Ocean heading towards Africa. It'll have to be very quick if it is to make SYD by the estimated time. :)

Looks like FlightView Dispatch view.

I wonder if there is a web site like the US government site listing past flights with airplane tail #'s.... this could be useful for confirming the Virgin Blue plane names that I've been on if I didn't get a chance to take a picture before boarding the jet.

We have added QF with some JQ flights coming through too!

You're right it does look very cluttered during the middle of the day. Will have to add different coloured planes and some sort of airline filter.

The TBU issue remains a mystery.. Seems the international date line / change from negative latitude to positive really confuses the calculations.

So, whats next?

Would RSS feeds be of benefit? Or exportable flight schedules?

More airlines?

Thanks everyone

Something which you could try is adding in the ability to filter down to one (or more) specific flight numbers, so that family back home can track exactly where the flight is. Whilst most airports \ airline websites have this functionaility already, having it as a single place for all airlines (for those of us who do mix and match from time to time) would be useful.

I can only see limited potential in a site which shows every flight in OZ...

We have added a few different filtering options, including search by flight number.

How does that look now?

Looks great and a nice addition for Australia.

Just been reading this thread where the OP mentions Flight Update app for iphone. Perhaps you can join up with them as they currently have live flight tracking for the US (like many sites do).

Just saw that you cover NZ and a fair bit of the South Pacific, well done.

The filtering certainly helps. Can this be made to this cover international flight as well?

Either way I'll be showing my wife this as I'm sure she'll test out the site on Friday... (She always tracks my flights, usually on the QF \ AA \ NZ websites)

Looking good.

Would it be a difficult change to change the size of the icon based on the size of the operating aircraft? ie. a 380 would have a bigger icon than a 737 etc.

Yeah, it's sort of weird seeing a Jet profile for a DHx flight (e.g. MQL-MEL)

I personally don't care, a DH8 can have the same icon as an A380 for all I care. I care where in the world the specific plane is that I'm tracking (because a loved one is on it) more so than making sure it's icon is an accurate size and representation.

Lets face it, they are not to scale compared with the maps underneath anyway...

Just my 2.2c
