Interesting article in November QFF newsletter...

A new First Class lounge experience is taking shape

Qantas is developing new First Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne. With world-renowned designer Marc Newson leading the design team, these lounges will offer unsurpassed levels of comfort and luxury.

Development starts in January 2006 and while work is under way, the First lounge in Sydney will close. We have organised exclusive interim lounge facilities for customers to use during this time. Details of the new location will be available when you check in.
Which lounge do you think they will use? Hopefully they won't stop Platinum access during this time.

I assume they will use a section of the business class lounge. I just hope they replace the post-mix beer vending with real bottled varieties!

Seems strange that the F lounge needs an upgrade so soon after being introduced. I would have thought there are more needy lounges in the network.

Maybe this has something to do with the new first class cabin for the a380?

Maybe they'll ship us off to a *A lounge :D

Now that would be interesting.

Don't know. Will be sure to have at least one flight from Syd Intl in Jan just to see !

Maybe they will reflect some of the CX Pier lounge amenity. IMHO the F lounge was getting tired - especially the seating and the food choices.

Maybe re-use the old J lounge overlooking (underlooking really) Gate 31. I passed the darkly quiet doors the other week.

The Sydney international Qantas Club lounges, created by Tony Masters Design were opend in mid 2002.

IMO, they looked tired when they first opened. The only good facit of them is the excellent batchroom facilities, Aside from everything else, they are two small.

Since it opened they have:

• Taken a subtantial wedge of the J lounge to expand the F lounge.
• Removed the baggage racks near each of the bathroom facility entrances to add more seating in the J lounge.

This still has not beem enough. Then again, it would not surprise me if the entire upstairs facility is given over to J and the old downstairs J lounge I mentioned above gets an F class refurbishment.

Lets hope "world-renowned designer Marc Newson" does a better job than his predecessor.
