New Amex statement credits

United Airlines - 1000 / 400

Very generous offer from United with a 40% cashback. I hope Qantas are taking note!
Qantas - 800/200 for return flights to Singapore

Wonder if it'll work if I book a return Flex fare for the cashback and then cancel for a credit?

Presumably a good chance, so long as it’s not a full refund? The credit would retain the original PNR - question is whether anything gets reported back to AMEX since QF still has your (AMEX’s) money?

Shame there isn’t a DSC offer on! 😉

No money back to card -> very likely no signal to amex to claw the credit back.

I assume they are validating the offer based on the Level 3 data that the airline sends back to the cards which purchase the tickets - which is why you can see your flight details including ticket number on your amex statement even when you book flights outside of amex travel.

Semi related; I've had credits not post before when billed incorrectly and need to be manually adjusted by submitting a receipt - this suggests that the amex offer system is not that sophisticated and is just a matter of checking if certain words or phrases are present in the transaction. I'd be very surprised if they built a whole new validation system just for these qantas offers.

Interesting idea I just had: I got the same offer (Qantas 800/200 Singapore) on my plat reserve alongside my plat charge.

Now I can’t seem to split a payment over two cards via the website, but I’m debating calling up, booking a full flex ticket, splitting it over my two cards for $400 back, and then cancelling for a flight credit. Does anybody know if qf lets you split payments via multiple cards if you call in?

Are you likely to be booking for one or 2x PAX?

I believe you can split payments but possibly that’s just when there’s 2 or more on the booking?

Note: once booked, the subsequent Credit is for the same number of PAX.

This is back but mine is 800/200
I just received a QBR offer that straddles the AMEX USA promo.

$200 off whY (return)
$300 off PE (return)
$500 off J (return)

That’s PP (max 9 PAX).

Given the T&Cs require it to be a single non-stop return flight (from BNE, SYD, MEL, PER or DRW) with no connections, and booked directly with Qantas, it's a little bit restrictive. A return flex fare seems to set you back around $1,500 which reduces the value of the deal a bit.

If you book a flex fare and cancel it can you use the credit without restriction (i.e. use it to book a red e-deal) or are you limited to flex fares and above? I seem to recall in the past booking fares with a flight credit restricted the fare buckets you could book into, but I haven't held a flight credit with Qantas for a few years now.
