New Amex statement credits

I tried to use the Langham $200 after spending $800 recently and I greedily wanted to double dip with the Amex FHR pay 2 for 3 rate. Annoyingly the FHR rate was charged direct by Amex Travel not on checkout at Langham like it used to in the past. Is this a permanent feature of FHR when there is some additional offer now?

When booking on Amex Travel/FHR its pretty clear whether it's pay now or pay at the hotel. Sometimes there's an option too.

IIRC though, I think booking directly with the Langham in Melb there was also a pay 2 stay for 3 offer. Obviously you miss out on the other FHR benefits.

Yeah agreed, on this occasion there was no “Pay at hotel” option (I went back to try again).

It's always worth checking direct when it comes to using FHR. FHR rates are never the cheapest. You need to decide if the FHR tax exceeds the benefits or not.

Interesting - I had already added a supp earlier this year for a previous 5k so maybe that's why mine was less? It's also the third supp I have added to my account so maybe they offer more if it's the first.

I have one existing supp on my cards, but it was added years ago, so they might be trying to encourage me to add another.

Book a "pay at hotel" /not refundable rate, if that works for you??

I would but my travels are usually after the offer expires. I was able to utilise these offers a couple of years back and advance payment bookings provides additional discounts.
