New Amex statement credits

I note that the T&Cs state only one transaction per store but some members seem to suggest that it works on multiple occasions at the same store. Am I reading this right?

If you are referring to Shop Small then you can use supplementary cards at the same shop assuming the card has a different number.

I was referring to the shop small promotion on both QF Ultimate and DJ Amex....
5 shops per card. But not more than 1 shop at the same merchant. If you have supp cards with different numbers same applies to those cards.

Yes understood (provided both card numbers are registered AIUI); but it seemed to me at the time of reading that when some members referred to splitting payments they may have been using the same card more than once; I now see that they may have been referring to splitting over multiple cards....

Thanks to all for the clarifications.

No problems.

I have definitely not seen anyone suggest that more that 5 transactions per card or more than 1 transaction on the same card with the same merchant is possible.

Got a shop small email for purchase at a pharmac_ not on the map. During last year's promo it was listed and I made a qualifying spend that got a shop small cashback. Maybe it is for all small businesses that accept Amex, whether they are on the map or not?

Last year I tried at least one business that had participated in previous years but wasn't on the 2016 map website - no email after spend and no statement credit.

There may be an opt-out mechanism. (Or it could have been an Amex error.)

I am thinking of how to best exploit the Harvey Norman offer in a way which minimises interaction with Harvey Norman sales staff.

Does anyone know if one can use multiple physical gift cards to pay for a purchase online? The following suggests that you can only use one and any remaining balance needs to be paid using another payment method:

Gift cards can also be used at Domayne. That would minimise your interaction with Harvey Norman.

Thank Dr Ralph for the suggestion, however no Domayne store in NSW had any stock of the iPhone I wanted, so had to deal with my closest Harvey Norman store (Broadway). Granted I made things worse by insisting on separate invoices for the iPhone and laptop (for TRS purposes), but the sales staff spent about half an hour trying to sell their product cover/extended warranty - a manager had to manually remove the product cover for both items, and of course used it as another opportunity to try to sucker me into paying extra!

Oh well, worth it for the $400 saving across four cards I suppose.

Gift cards can also be used at Domayne. That would minimise your interaction with Harvey Norman.

A little unrelated, but what TRS benefit does splitting invoices give you?

No benefit other than simplicity - I will only be making a TRS claim on the iPhone and to avoid any confusion, I didn’t want the laptop to appear on the receipt that I will be presenting at the TRS counter.

Also, TRS rules say any invoice over $1,000 must have your address on it - the iPhone conveniently cost $999, but Harvey Norman automatically put my (old) address on the invoice anyway.

Had to finish off our Shop Small this weekend as we are off OS on Monday and will return only after the promo ends. We found this page courtesy of Ozbargains very helpful, and we knocked off our remaining Shop Small by visiting 2 shops that were within 200 metres of each other :) Amex Shop Small Guide - OzBargain Wiki

Re current Best & Less AMEX offer of spend $25 get $15 back. Third party gift cards are available at some Best & Less stores. I have seen cards for Apple, Super Cheap Auto and Greater Union Cinemas. But possibly the best offering is for $50 VISA Only 1 cards.

I purchased 10 of these yesterday and had no problems splitting the payments $25 x 2 for each of these cards. Emails from AMEX have been received for the cash back.

I should also note that the store I visited told me that these types of cards were new to them. They clearly had no idea because they had to get a supervisor to teach them how to encode the card and they failed to charge me the $5.95 purchase fee for each card.

Result for me will be 10 x $50 VISA Only 1 cards purchased for a total of $200. That's a better return than from the Harvey Norman deal! Only wish I had more AMEX cards to take advantage of this offer.

I'd suggest that if you are interested in this offer you act immediately.

That's Dr. Good find. Best and less stores now closed. But I'll be hitting up my local in Brisbane tomorrow :)

Wonder how long until this gets shut down.

Read this a few minutes back and immediately jumped to AMEX login to start accepting the offer.

1st card - not there.
2nd card - not there.
3rd card - not there.

OK try the AMEX offers page, so many offers on there currently, scrolling, scrolling. Not there.

Then I remembered the signs at the checkouts for the 2 B&Ls we visit - American Express not accepted!

Is this a Qld only offer?

Bah humbug.

The offer was Australia wide. It's already fully subscribed.
