New Amex statement credits

Some people argue they do not have an amex because they cannot see the benefit in paying an annual fee.
I too have been feeling a little overwhelmed by the number of offers. I only just got round today to spending the gift cards I bought through the last Dan's offer in October.

I try to convince my colleagues (all of whom are bright, with high incomes and some degree of travel) but sometimes it feels that we are speaking different languages

Even the Discovery Amex at zero p.a. with the free supp cards is something no one can say no to.

Except for the fact that Amex limits you to holding 2 credit cards, so whilst there is no cost to holding the Discovery card, it may prevent access to other credit cards if held in conjuction with another credit card.

I'm not sure that's true. I hold 3 credit cards.

Either way, I think whatmeworry was referring to was an individual who doesn't hold any Amex cards (and is reluctant to)

I am not sure if this has been covered elsewhere but the cheaper $2.95 fee 'red' Westfield gift cards are accepted by Coles regardless of whether the Coles is in a Westfield centre or not. I did this twice today already at 2 different Coles. Just swipe the card, select savings and enter the pin. The receipt says debit card and doesn't print a remaining balance so you need to track that yourself. I wasn't going to bother with getting the maximum Westfield cards but now I will.

That's interesting - I'd seen several posts on OzBargain that the red card could be (or previously could be) used at Woolworths as well, regardless of whether in a Westfield or not, I'll have to try it at our local WW.

Very interested to hear the results of your test.

Woolies (non westfield) are good as well. I have been using the red card.

I'm not sure that's true. I hold 3 credit cards.

The agent told me 2 credit cards + charge card. Not sure about companion card. Wish they followed Amex US and allow 4 cards.

First Choice Liquor Naremburn this arvo, young fella said they're not able (as of last week, he says) to split payment across multiple cards. Sigh. Completely pointless restriction as unlike the Westfield offer there's no activation fee for the cards. It only makes sense if they are trying to sell out of the physical cards - in which case why not just remove them from display?

I bought one Coles Group gift card and will try my luck again another day so I hopefully can avoid having 3x150 gift cards.

Just did the rounds ... only 4 cards here
Myer Adelaide ... no problems splitting payment = $300 x 2 GCs plus extra $10 mobile wallet credit
Liquor Choice ... From the sales person "Is this being paid using AMEX? Of course we can split the payments. Its a pretty good deal"

Scrooge Westfield ... The Amex deal is already over. No its not, I can show you. Oh you can only buy one card at a time and no split payments - Seems like they have all received the same notice. I wonder why the bother agreeing to having the offer if they cannot handle the heat.

Had this very thing said to me at Westfield West Lakes just yesterday. They didn't understand that I'd saved it to the card and were trying to tell me I wouldn't get the offer from AMEX  Used the gift card straight away at Woolies and bought a $100 Myer gift card (5% off with staff discount card). Used the Myer gift card today for a one day only 20% off sale! Thus, the product I bought using a mix of Myer gift card, remaining Westfield card balance and AMEX card came to about 30-40% cheaper than full price. That's playing the system to the max!

That ones pretty easily fixed. Buy 3 x $150 cards and go into a Coles with a self checkout. Buy a new $450 gift card and just split the payments yourself.

Thanks. I will now brave Westfield again and buy 6 $100 Westfiled gift cards for $2.95 each.....but I will have to bring mum now as one of my supp Amex cards is in her name and they will insist on photo ID;)

I split 1 x$300 CM gift cards over 2 Amex cards just 2 days ago at this same store!

When I bought gift cards they didn't touch my AMEX cards, I've swiped them myself through the machine.

Unfortunately, my closest Westfield insisted on photo ID when i tried to buy GCs last week...I had my mum's passport scanned on my phone but the sales woman sarcastically said that my mum had tio be physically present to use her Amex card...so I walked away and didn't buy any GCs that day!...but as someone up post said that would make him more determined to screw Westfield (or is it Amex) and take maximum advantage of this offer including requesting $97.05 be placed on the Red gift card!!

With all the cards looking so similar these days, you could be forgiven for mistakenly using your Mum's as yours.
Accidental purchases do occur, you know.

I initially "like"d your post but had to "unlike" it as i note it cost another $5.95 to post each card!!

That price is correct. Item is delivered by courier. If you don't live near a westfield or want to deal with their rubbish i stand by my suggestion.
