New Amex statement credits

Haven’t been able to use Amex online chat for months. I’ve harassed them on social media (which doesn’t go very far), and they’ve emailed me just saying “it’s definitely working”

You’ve probably tried different browsers/allowed pop ups and found it still doesn’t work, but I have used chat 4 times last 2 weeks and it’s worked fine for me. Quality of their CSRs manning the chat is a different matter...

Harris Scarff spend $60 get $20 offer - have now purchased 24 x $100 Only 1 VISA cards. Got $20 credit for each of these purchases. Charged the $5.95 fee about 50% of the time. Happy with the $100 VISA card for somewhere between 20% off and 14% off.

Last year there was a Marriott offer. I wish they were on the list as I have a two night stay coming up :(.

For those in Sydney, there are 3 Newslink stores that can top-up Opal for the Travel Essentials offer at Central Station. The 4th Newslink doesn't have an Opal terminal. I made a trip to Central mid-morning and did 24 Opal top-ups across my 8 Amex cards. There is no Amex surcharge at Newslink. I chose not to top up Opal in the SS event this year as could easily obtain my 40 credits elsewhere so this Travel Essentials offer is a huge bonus.

Thanks. Which one exactly does not do Opal topups? Did they allow split payments?

The one without Opal is beyond the ticket barrier downstairs at the Northern (city) end.

I did multiple $20 top-ups. Depending upon how busy they were and how tolerant the server was, sometimes I could only do one. At other times I did 4 or 5 before they served the next person.

You are very lucky today. I went last week to top up opal, the lady only allowed me to top up twice, then she said "no more top up" .

Who do these people think they are. It's not up to them how many times or by how much (subject to the minimums of the scheme) you top up your card!

I agreed. When I pulled out the 2nd Amex card, she asked me "is Amex doing the promotion again"? I said "yes", then she told me "no more top up after this one". The shop was not busy at all. I personally think that most of them do not have an Amex card, they are unhappy that we are able to receive the credit back from Amex, they have to pay the full fare.

Luck perhaps but I always ask nicely and don't assume the seller will co-operate. The interplay of age, ethnicity, gender and manner generates different results. A couple of years ago my wife (who is oriental) was ahead of me in the queue and asked if she could make multiple Opal top-ups in a SS offer. The saleslady (same age and ethnicity as my wife) bristled at this request and allowed her just one. I (Anglo-Saxon male, similar age) step forward and made the same request very politely and she did the 6 I requested quite cheerfully.

Essentially if I am denied I just try another outlet or wait a few minutes. This morning one lady did tell me only one top up at a time so I went to another Newslink and then returned about 10 mins later to find she wasn't there and the new staff were happy to do multiples.

Attention all pet owners: Used the Mypetwarehouse, spend $75 get $25 back, offer this week. Their Science Diet 12kg dog food is reduced by 15% (although you probably save a bit more given the inflated prices at other pet stores). Received the package today with a $10 off next order voucher. Have this offer saved to another card so I'll use that to get the 15% discount, + $25 back through AMEX + $10 off the purchase.

As if my dog didn't love me enough! :D

SydneySwan, so you can use one card to top up 3 times at the same newslink shop? I am a bit confused about this part....

Used the BP app offer this arvo. It's a little slow to activate the pump then close off but otherwise seems ok. Feels weird driving off without going in store to pay.

I believe so - I certainly received all the emails. Need to wait 2/3 days for the credits.

It certainly does. I tried it yesterday and the car waiting behind me tooted as I drove off!
