New Amex statement credits

Went to another Best and Less today, got a $50 eftpos GC (friendlier for bills) and was charged the $5.95 fee - they had to scan the "fee" separately. Split over two cards with no problem. Happy days.

Anyone wonder why Amex have gone crazy with these offers in the last couple of months? Really hard to keep up esp if travelling OS....I signed up for the 7 11 offer when I was in London, and will be filling my car up @$15 increments, which means buying petrol at 33% off so not complaining. But there are so many offers around that I probably won't get time to use

As I posted earlier in the year when people where complaining it was quiet - it is normal that Amex posts most of the promos in the pre-Xmas period.

This so now in the cashback promo era. It was also so in the bonus points era.

Yes I managed to get some at the weekend at B&L as well. They were happy to split one $50 eftpos card over 2 Amex but there is a bar code for the $5.95 fee on each card now. However at Harris Scarfe they are still not charging the fee. Be quick.

My comment was in realtion to the frequency of the offers which was what I understood the OP was commenting on.

The $5.95 fee barcode has always been there. The question has just been whether staff were trained to scan it. When I bought these cards a few weeks ago the fee barcode was clearly visible but the staff member has no idea and didn’t scan it.

As it’s a manual process for staff to scan two different barcodes then it could very well be a case of if they scan the fee barcode then don’t buy them and try again later.

The attendant at HS I went to was quite clear that he was deliberately not applying the fee. Wish I had signed up more than 3 cards.
Potentially also viable without offer particularly with Accelerator/Explorer

I went to best and less the first day of the offer. I reminded staff member to charge the fee. Figured the store would not make a great margin on the prepaid cards and didn't want to get staff member into any trouble.

Sorry I should have been clearer, was talking about B&L which has always had the barcode for $5.95 on for what I have seen. In their case I think it’s basically a staff training thing as to whether or not you will get charged it.

Sadly I didn’t register for the HS offer as I didn’t know about the gift cards at the time.
