I've booked the first flight out of Sydney on the 17th, going to see anyone else on it? Haven't quite worked out the return flight but probably the 0520 on Tuesday

I want to, but I'd need to get to SYD and can't justify it.

To add to my woes I booked a fare to LRE a couple days ago on the wrong weekend, so had to pay change fees today to move flights. Luckily the fares were still available! So money is a little tight right now!!

Any transport to the airport in Toowoomba. 15km out is a decent distance if not doing a then around

Nothing loaded into the translink website for dummy bookings in October. I couldn't find an estimated taxi fare from the cbd. Hopefully that will change soon. I am loathed to do the legwork for them.

I have been looking forward to this for a long time. With the way the flights line up it looks as though I could even get P1 all going well! Hope to see some of you fellow AFF's on there!

Qantas still having issues with the flight times. (am guessing that WTB has been allocated an incorrect GMT offset).

Also interesting that Qantas has chosen to list the airport as "Toowoomba (Wellcamp)" and not "Brisbane West Wellcamp"

It might have something to do with BTW being an airport in the middle of the atlantic. Batulicin according to flight stats. My Flights app has me flying to there on the specie little in app map.

For those using the AFF Flight Tracker, I did add it to the database ;)

Hopefully, YBWW and not BTW given the above.

In other news wellcamp does not appear in the gift voucher booking system.

Tomorrow is the open day at the airport, I had hoped to go up but I'm too poor for fuel and it's a big drive :(

Has anyone managed to find out if there will be some sort of transport on the opening day, not looking forward to an expensive taxi fare.

My guess is the FIFO is envisaged as a income stream and stop gap to mainly service the Chinchilla region while waiting for the future benefit of the range tunnel.

TMR Qld have apparently completed a feasibility study into a rail connection between Gowrie (right beside the new airport) and Grandchester (near the end of the current city rail network at Rosewood). The features are:

• a high level of rail service to connect the south west of the state to Brisbane;
• design speeds up to 200 kph, where possible, to cater for potential future higher train operating speeds;
• possible future double stacked container freight trains;
• potential link to any future private sector proposal for the Melbourne-Darwin inland rail concept;
• Standard and narrow-gauge rail capability;
• electrification, if this is a future requirement;
• retention of historic rail tunnels and stations.

Rumour has it an express pax. service is being considered stopping Toowoomba, Helidon, Gatton, Laidley, Rosewood, Ipswich, Darra, Milton then all stations to Bowen Hills which certainly connects the entire cityrail network to this new venture.

Maybe they're putting their money where their mouth is and sticking their toe in the "futures market" at the same time. Good on them for not just talking about it!

If anyones interested the Taxi fare is $60 during nightrates as I found out the other morning for my return flight.

I'd put that one in the empty file right at the back of the cabinet draw......... In a similar vein the rail link to Redcliffe was first enthusiastically talked about in the early 70's with a pretty line drawn on a map. That map got pulled out and vigorously waved around every time an election rolled around and as soon the election was over it was neatly folded away and put back in the bottom draw.

There are no firm numbers on how many people actually died due to them holding their breath in egger anticipation that something tangible would actually happen soon, but they are understood to be significant. Suffice to say forty ( 40 ) years later a D & C contract was actually let to Thiess in August last year to proceed with the first fare paying passengers not expected to jump on board a train until late 2016.

Don't get me wrong that is a very nice map attached ....... just don't hold your breath waiting for the hard hat boys and girls to turn up. Fortunately a system is in place now if anyone does run out of air in the interim - A masks will drop down from the panel above their head, Pull down firmly on the mask this will activate the oxygen supply, place the mask over their nose and mouth and breathe normally for about 20 years.

Don't panic, my breath is not held! First flights happened there earlier this week I believe.

You do mean the 1870's?
The Moreton Bay Rail Link has been a long time coming.
The first known reference to a rail link to Redcliffe dates back to the late 1800s when a local alderman proposed that a new line be built to the peninsula at an estimated cost of 200,000 pounds.
