just heard there's a new airline flying the Tasman soon (new as in they haven't flow the Tasman before, not a new start up)

Heard they've been talking to a few airports in NZ, but not AKL. No idea who it is. Will try to find out.

Could it be Tiger or some Asian, or middle east carrier, doing what Emirates did. (instead of sitting around at some AU airport paying parking fees, go to NZ & pick up some long haul pax from NZ as well as short haul.

Tiger is my tip.
EK used to have up to 3 x A380s at AKL everyday. One went nonstop to DXB, but think the other 2 went back to SYD, MEL or BNE 1st. Think that has been cutback, but they still fly an A380 to DXB/CHC via OZ.

Intriguing! If not AKL then it would speak for an airline already flying to AKL non-stop?

Suggestions:
Tigerair (most likely, leaving AKL to VA)
Malaysia Airlines
Scoot
Korean Air (reinstating both MEL and CHC?)
Thai (to CHC via SYD?)

Outliers:
ANA (surely they would go to AKL first?)
Royal Brunei

Question is how many airlines have aircraft parked on the tarmac in Australia for say, 10-12 hours? That would be the most likely target.
