Has anyone here seen the new Air New Zealand safety video? Check it out here.

I was actually quite excited to check it out because their previous videos have been top notch. Featuring voiceovers from Ed O’Neil (from Modern Family) and actress Melanie Lynskey (from Two and a Half Men) I thought it would be quite good.

Personally, I think Air NZ has gone down the cheap road here - its basically a storyboard that should be seen in an advertising pitch rather than the final product. I also don't know if a cartoon is suitable for a safety demonstration? The voiceovers from the actors are great though - they really pull it off and apparently there is going to be a competition for those of us that can name the various other actors that appear in the video (prize is a round the world trip, though details haven't yet been released).

Also, did you know that Melanie Lynskey is kiwi? I never knew!

What do you think?

i did see one a couple of weeks ago and noticed that a few of the actors were still in the nude.

Yes,
I had the displeasure of watching the video 7 times last month!!!! Bring back Gene Symonds any day :)

Re: Air New Zeland new safety video

I am not really impressed. In a safety video I would prefer a little more... professionalism and a few less hobbits.

I reckon it better than some of the more recent NZ ones, although I feel the life jacket blow up bit's rather cheezy ...

One thing that stood out to me is the barefoot hobbit. Air New Zealand's website states that all passengers " for health and safety reasons, travellers are required to wear footwear." Somewhat ironic that a safety video includes a clear demonstration of a violation of a safety standard.

I thought the overall concept was OK but it really needs to be about a minute shorter.

Perhaps the hobbit had removed its high heels before exiting down an escape slide?

I tend to judge things on their efectiveness, the reality is most of those professional video's are boring as bat**** and hence noone pays much notice. Air New Zealand videos always get attention and hence are more effective in my opinion at getting the message accross. I'd be interested actually to see if anyone has actually done any reviews to verify effectiveness of boring (sorry professional) vs the Ir NZ style of video.

Another great Air NZ video!

Makes all the other airlines ones quite boring

Robert Qld - You might like the new Delta one, professional with some humor thrown in ! NEW! In-flight Safety Video - Version 2 - YouTube

Actually I do like the Delta one. Professional with that little bit of cheekiness as well.

and a nice little bit of continuity with the previous red headed safety instructer (aband her wiggling finger) making a cameo! Hehehe
