New 3 class 747 layout - QF7/8/15/16/107/108

Have a flight on QF 7&8 coming up shortly. I've selected 14 K as I've always been a fan of the "bubble" and that seat has pretty much unlimited leg room. But the consensus here seems to be that 5J or 5B are a better bet for a solo traveler?

Does anyone favour row 14 over row 5?

Not for a solo traveller - nothing beats having a seat with no neighbour.

Great. 5j secured both directions, thanks for the advice.
Flying out on 7/8 and returning 13/8. A bit torn between being sad to miss out on the a380 and happy to have a last ride on the 747

You'll love it.
I too will really miss the 747. Whilst the re-furb J is good, imagine how great it would be if QF kept them and put in the new mini-suite J that's going on the A330 ?
*Dreaming again*

This may be too early to speculate but...

Just having a search through the Qantas website for availability of First class for a trip to Hong Kong Jan 2015 and noticed that the fares had been removed for first class, only economy->business bookable. Decided to do a little further searching and found that First class can only be booked up until September 28th 2014, coincidentally the point at which Qantas moves the A380 onto SYD-DFW, and pulls the re-furb 747ER off the route...

Could it be that the clunker 4 class, un-refurbished 747's will be pulled from the SYD-HKG route and replaced with the newer 747's from the Dallas route? Only speculating here, but my suspicions have been raised that this is the case.

Just checked Expert Flyer - still showing A380, but all F0 A0, so definite possibility.

I have a return flight booked on 28th Jan 2015 in J currently and I was planning on putting through an upgrade request to use a few points for F for the return leg home considering it's not the true 'lay flat' in J, so I'm hoping there is a nice upgrade of equipment on the route happens in the meantime. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see how they go about the shifting of aircraft types when the A380 comes into operation on SYD-DFW.

+100 Is there any reason why they can't use some of the 787 technology in a new version of the 747

The 747-8 has lots of the 787 technology in it! Lufthansa are one of the only airlines that fly them... :(

Flew 5J both legs as a solo traveller and couldn't be happier with the seat, the positioning or the service. Particularly useful is the side table / storage bay. Only other comment is the importance to position oneself near the LHS exit on arrival at DFW if you want to have as clear a run as possible to clear TSA and Customs.

I believe LH is the only passenger airline operating the B747-8I. All the other operators are cargo airlines with the B747-8F.

.......... sounds like you were on a 3class (56J/40W/275Y) which is a pre skybed MKII 'reconfiguration'.. sorry i cant attatch the seat map on here..but you can find it on QF.com seat plans 747-400(Longreach)

It looks like this config is doing QF108 JFK-LAX on Sunday. What would be the best seat for a solo traveller? Currently I'm think 3E or 3F which are currently available.

Looks like an old three class with Mk 1 on Sunday 6th - 3E/F don't exist ...

Oops meet 4E/F. Best of a bad lot?

I think these are the worst seats in the front cabin due to the narrow aisle and the proximity to the galley.
Also, row 4 does not exist on other configs, so if the aircraft changes, you may end up sitting anywhere.

Are you referring to the old 3 class? It's only the hop from JFK-LAX so I won't be sleeping so I'm not overly worried. I'll be keeping an eye out for substitutions (I had 5B on a refurbed aircraft and then 4A when it switched to an old four class). Any skybed MKII is going to be better than a Skybed MKI.
