I've recently joined the Netflix thing, by using one of the log-ons of a friend who has a Australian premium subscription. Enjoying it, so now I want to take out my own subscription and am looking at the US site for the wider content.

I understand that I will need a VPN ... so you simply go 'through' the VPN and subscribe via the US site?

That sounds too easy ... any other tips or tricks? Will it not like an Australian credit card then?

Any particular VPN that is better for this purpose?

Is it actually against the US site T&Cs to go this way?

Also, I guess if I go US site/VPN I won't be able to use it on my smart-TV, with native Netflix installed (but I could go via my laptop to the TV) ?

Thanks to Rooflyer for directing me here. I have an Aus account and so far a free US as a trial. Using Express VPN. I have looked online in the Aus Netflix account and cannot see where to change to US service? Help?
You don't manually change it.
Netflix picks up from your VPN settings . So if you currently ,via the VPN , in USA Netflix shows USA account programmes.
If VPN server is UK , Netflix will show the UK programmes

You cant elect the change in country. Netflix detects the country you are in and automatically sends you the country specific content menu
Ive always thought an AU Netflix account always gives an AU content no matter where in the world you actually (or virtually) are until now.

Wow, that seems just too easy then! Must cancel the US account. I’m in SFO - where are others living?

Apart from a server which gives very stable VPN US Netflix - Netflix has not banned that server yet, they have a Noosa yoghurt factory just north of Denver - yes "Noosa". And the Coors brewery tour was interesting (Denver, good beer)

Legal pot anyone?

I have a US Netflix account which I use via AppleTV & Unlocator after trying other DNS server options over few years. If the content can be found on Aussie Netflix then I can watch using Samsung TV.
Sometimes on the weekends, the US version won’t load as quickly as required so I change over & use AU version. It’s not ‘easy’ to set up but lots of help when you pay for a service to trick the servers into thinking you are somewhere else in the world.
I love my Hulu subscription too, which allows me to watch US shows on my own timeframe - not when they get around to showing them here!
