Needing advice on flying Sydney - Germany

Hi Everyone

my husband and i are needing to get to Germany (Nuremberg) in May for a wedding.

I am wondering if anyone has suggestions of what is the cheapest city to fly into europe? we can then get a cheap flight/train to Nuremburg...

we want to go with a good reputable airlines - qantas, virgin, luftansa, united, singapore airlines etc rather than china and japan or thai....

If you're after cheapest fare it would be best to use a search engine like kayak.com or skyscanner.com to compare multiple airlines prices.

Just to clarify im not looking for the cheapest airline but a good airfare with a GOOD airline...

Am i better to serch for flight to Frankfurt, Munich, London or France? Happy to fly into any european city just not sure what is the cheapest city to fly into...

Lufthansa do have good fares, but always into FRA and the onward flight, also on LH, is no additional charge'. You might go SYD-SIN on SQ, then pick-up the LH flight.

This is what I'm doing mid year - the cost of MEL-SIN-FRA and return is identical to that which includes flying onwards to Krakow from Frankfurt (and return). And I'm very happy to be on SQ for the long first and last legs!

Thai are also well priced, but you wouldn't get the final onwards leg a the end.

Get these fares from a good travel agent - it does not add to the cost to go through the TA. If you don't know of one, send me a Private Message and I can refer you to mine.

Worth having a look at a fare ex Asia, there can be some good ones that end up cheaper as two tickets than buying one ticket ex Australia. Finnair often have some good deals where the first legs is with QF.

What is your definition of good? There are some airlines on your list [United for one] who I wouldn't consider as good as Thai or JAL.

by good i mean all the above accept it seems i need to remove united (havent flown with them in years - seems i need to take them off my good list lol)

Given your airline list - I'd be tempted to fly with singapore airlines into Munich or Frankfurt.

I think Frankfurt would be the best option as the long distance train station is connected to the airport, whereas in Munich you'd have to catch the local train into the main station from the airport so Frankfurt would work out relatively quicker.

Normally ex-AUS the major european cities price out as pretty similar.

Last year I flew Melbourne to Nuremburg with SQ and LH. Lufthansa also fly into Nuremburg from both Frankfurt and Munich so you may be better off pricing a Nuremburg fare . I usually don't feel like changing to a 3 hour train ride after flying direct from Australia.

Expedia gives me a May return fare of ~ $1700 USD which isn't too bad.
