Hi!

I am looking at booking a round the world trip for late 2021 when flights are open, starting and finishing in Brisbane. I have a novice question. I would like to visit the following places, Japan, Vietnam, Houston, Nairobi and India. Which order should I do the flights and any other tips ? Please pardon my ignorance :) I will be using Qantas points.

Thanks in advance.

This guide here might be helpful for some initial background: How to fly around the world in Business Class using Qantas Points

There is also a dedicated thread here on AFF regarding Qantas and Oneworld round the world flights: "oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I'm not an expert of these, but the thread above will have the best advice (start reading the last 10 pages or so).

In theory I guess you could do something like Brisbane to the USA on Qantas and American Airlines, fly across to Nairobi (various options on British Airways or Royal Air Maroc), fly to India/Asia on Qatar out of Nairobi, take Japan airlines up to Japan, and then Qantas back to Australia.

The thread referred to above that I have highlighted is not a “round the world“ thread. The award flight referred to in that thread does not have to be taken in a “round the world“ direction, subject to the rules, although it can be taken in that manner if you want to.

My recommendation, if you are planning to use points, is do not limit your thinking and planning to only flying “round the world” as there may be better route options and more economical uses of points by taking a One World Award, which is what that thread is all about.

For the number of destinations the OP wanted, coming in at around 32000 miles (probably more with a couple of transit points required to complete the itinerary), would not a RTW be abut right? They want USA, Africa, South East Asia, North Asia, and back to Oz. I suppose there could be the option of cutting Nairobi out of the ticket and purchasing a separate ticket for that.

Thanks a lot for your recommendation. Although I've recently decided to not go all around but to only those places less affected by COVID19.

Q totally irrelevant to this thread but not worth starating a new thread - this morn I booked 2 x ret QF award flts MEL-MCY for XMAS but cannot select seats - too far out to do so or another reason?

Edit: Just logged in again and now can select seats for 3/4 sectors - still same problem SYD-MCY sector exists.
