LT Gold
So i've actually ended up closer than i thought to gold so i am considering going for the 215SCs i need by Oct 31. Complication of the next two weekends i have full weekends, but am doing BNE-MEL-BNE both times!

So that leaves me needing 215 to get in two weekends (unless i call in sick??).

Any suggestions on most cost effective way?

Can you upgrade your existing BNExMEL to Flexi? That's double the SC's to 30 each way.

If not, the cheapest I can think of is the following:

Let's look at 110 SC's per weekend.

MEL-AKL on weekend 1 MEL can be had for AUD246 that's 20 SC's Fly Fri Nite arrive early hours Sat

AKL-MEL-AKL on weekend 1 and weekend 2 can be had for NZD445.

Then AKL-MEL can be had at end of weekend 2 for NZD198.

That's 80 SC in total.

Now on each Sat do AKL-WLG-AKL-CHC-AKL for NZD304, that's 40 SC each Sat. NZD604

Do it again one Sunday, just do WLG another Sunday another 40/SC SC for NZD304/NZD142 - NZD446.

That's 220 SC's for AUD246 and NZD1700 (~AUD1470). a total of ~AUD1720.

All I can say is wow; I guess you don't watch much TV to spend your time figuring that out. I think with Serftys help I am sure I will make it to Platinum one year, just not this year as the credit card is maxed out; blame owning a house. :(

I wonder if it's really worth spending ~$2000 just to make Gold?

That's 18 flights in a fortnight; one is better of spending AUD4000 and making WP ... ;)

Nah, travelled with Kiwi Flyer in August ... just one weekend ... I did it from memory ... (the MEL/AKL fares are dirt cheap at the moment)

Agree - better to spend $250 and buy a QC pass!! Was thinking out loud i guess and was interested to see what it would take.

I was actually thinking acouple of weekends in Fiji (flying J) but works out more like $4k to do it that way!

Sounds cheap....

You get QC membership for $250??

BTW if you were only a few SC's short you can buy a spare seat and you will get the SC's for that seat also. This often works out cheaper than upgrading as you don't have to pay fuel fines etc.

I think this one will go in the too hard basket unless there's a killer J class sale someone for travel in October! I can either go the QC or just suck it up and stay silver (and save at least $2500 and 2 full weekends).

How about buying a Jetsaver Light Fare to one of their international desitnations which are on sale (eg. BKK, DPS etc) and upgrading to Starclass on both legs when you arrive at the airport? That would net you around 150-200 SCs, and then bump it up further with JQ *Class MEL <-> SYD flights.

Except there are no points/SCs for *Class ODUs any more...

Yes, there have been reports that Qantas is cracking down on points/SC's crediting in these cases

In any case, such crediting should always be treated as a bonus, not a right.

I certainly would not use is as part of an MR, not then - not now, and not in the future.
