Just write to Qantas. Explain how close you are, how much you love Qantas and try to indicate how many flights you will be traveling on over the next year.

Maybe...just maybe they will take heart and give you WP for a year.

Sure there is no harm in trying but generally this would only work if you had Gold or Platinum status already and you were going to fall short on attaining the same status next year.

It is very rare for Qantas to give someone Gold or Platinum status when they have a lower status and have not achieved the required SCs for the next status level.
