NBN Discussion

I have Committed to the NBN with Telstra so I have ordered the frontier Modem but instead they sent me the normal gateway modem ...... in the contract they will be charging me 16 $ for it but the normal gateway modem is suppose to be thrown in. The frontier modem should be 9 $ when re-contracting. Chaos has begun ðŸ oh my goodness shaking my head ......

I think I've only got one correct modem from Telstra over the years.

Each time it occurs I waste several hours trying to return it.
The most recent was a mobile broadband modem - they sent me a USB instead of wifi version.

Took me 5 calls (either physical call or via online chat) to get a prepaid return satchel from them.

Because I am re- negotiating my internet it should be about 9$ per month over term of the contract ( 24 months).
Apparently it switches over automatically when connection drops but your IP changes necessitating a need to re- login to websites that were being browsed.

Also :( they limited it to 6Mbps down and 1 Mbps up

But this at least keeps you connected ....

Just FYI, a change of IP doesn't necessarily mean you need to restart a logged in browser session. You may find it makes very little difference as HTTP(s) is a session based protoco

Can anyone please provide a review about vividwireless.com.au unlimited data wireless plan

https://www.vividwireless.com.au/

I went to their forums as I funny enough could not find anything about their speed !!!

And number one compliant is slow speed despite a good signal. Answers a lot of your questions.

My republic are advertising heavily on Skynews

Found a site that will include fresnel zones in the fixed wireless LOS transmission

http://linkcalc.ligowave.com
create free account then enter transmission tower as per ACMA and google locations

This is mine (as planned - not built yet): Fresnel zones OK. House on right. Tower on left. So long as no obstructions are higher than the blue line then fresnel effect is minimised. Trees not included. No buildings

If we look at the NBN rollout map then we have NBN available.

If I use finder.com.au to look up our address then we have NBN available.

If I use nbnco.com.au to look up our address I get: 'We’re currently getting the nbn™ broadband access network up and running in your area. There’s still work to do before we connect your premises.'

Obviously they have as much idea about this as I do which is no idea.

Oh they know...Are you FTTN?

How would I know?

Though FTTN would be logical.

Have a look at NBN MTM Alpha (google search). Look for your area.
Alternatively use nbn rollout map on finder.com.au - put in adddress and you will see the "rollout type"

The reason i speculate FTTN is because
1) There are intractable and widespread issues in the areas where FTTN micronode is being deployed. So while FTTN neighbourhoods are deployed and RFS, some adjacent streets with deployed micronodes but are having difficult technical issues - hence the NBNCo doublespeak
2) Some FTTN areas are experiencing bad copper so NBNCo might be reassessing whether to fix the copper or spend more for FTTC.

finder.com.au states Fixed Line as the type.

NBN MTM Alpha lists as FTTN with no speed estimate.
FTTN (Fixed line is anything that is not wireless or satellite - FTTx, HFC)

Maybe you can see these in your neighbourhood?

Below is the green FTTN Node (fibre comes to this node, then copper to the existing telstra grey distribution round pillar in the background then further existing copper to your premises)

Below is a FTTN micronode - these are having lots of technical problems:

NBN MTM Alpha: I presume you are seeing yellow dots. Look for dots (different colour - see dot colour table bottom right) with FTTN with a speed estimate in your area. If there are, then by clicking on the dot it will give you a blue and red line to the nearest pillar and node on the map.

See example - in this one though the node (green dot) connects via a red line to a pillar (grey dot) which then connects to the house via a blue line
