I'm gonna book an international flight soon through Qantas. When you get to the names of passengers bit it asks for your first name and last name and then tells you that the names must match the name on your passport.
There's a second name on my passport however. Should I include my second name or should I just put my first name?

both of them.
exactly the same of the passport - can be an issue if the names don't match

As above & advised by the airline. If it doesn't match, it doesn't fly (particually if the US are involved).

Really?

But first name shouldn't it be one name only?

I've always had award tickets in first and last names only, but my passport has middle names.

In all of my travels to US, Europe and Asia - I've only every had my first and last name on the tickets - and no hassle. Mind you, this was before the very latest US security 'enhancements'!

You put your first name and your surname.. If you are going to the US after you make the booking, you enter your APIS information there in which it will ask for your middle name... But once again just your FIRST/SURNAME.

Yup always done just first and last name, Europe, US, Asia, North and South America... Would be a bit hard putting all the middle names in, my wifes first name box would be 30 characters long

Only complication I have come across has been that Mrs RB has a hyphen in her only christian name and some airline online systems do not allow the hyphen- stopped us from using the self check at Auckland in 2010 for NZ flight.

If the booking site has a field to capture middle name, then i always enter my middle name to be safe. However many sites only have first and last name fields.

I've never had a problems with only having my first & last name on my booking/ticket.

I booked my last Int flight via a TA, LHR-SFO-SYD with only First/Last name. When i called QF post booking, the agent asked for my middle name and updated my booking.

I think when it instructs you to enter name as per passport it's not so much saying including middle names as well but more a case of if your (first) name in the passport is Anthony but you are known as 'Tony', make sure you make the booking as Anthony.

Ditto if your first name is Michael but for some obscure reason everyone calls you 'Jack'.

For women, if they get married but still have their passport in their maiden name make sure the airline booking is in maiden name to match passport.
