There's a story in today's news about the Badgerys Creek field. The proposal is to name it after the bloke who built the Sydney Arbour Bridge, George Bradfield.

Meh.

I'd name it after local member Alex Hawke and his father, ex-PM Bob Hawke.

"Richie Benaud International"

Qantas flight twho # - twho - twho is now boarding at gate twenty-twho, that's gate twho-twho. Marvellous airline, that.

# Happy to be corrected on spelling

Always a politicians dream to open and name new things.

Who cares. For the rest of we will look up for a moment to see what the kerfufle is about and then realise it's just a pollie announcement and go back to doing what we were doing microseconds ago.

In the Us they have Logan, so why can't we have Bogan?
Bogan International? Bogan Field?

(and for those that think I'm being disrespectful - I grew up in Sydney's south west and spent most of my school life out at Glenfield - close enough to give me honorary Bogan status.)

Don't we name all our airports after Charles Kingsford Smith?

John Bradfield actually.

Alex Hawke is the member for Mitchell, in north western Sydney. Badgerys Creek is in the Macarthur electorate. As a right wing Liberal, Alex Hawke is certainly not related to Bob.

Hawkes Nest - oh, but I think it has already been taken! :D
That's my thinking. I always liked the sound of Eagle Farm as an airport - built in cool.

Hawkey was one of the best PMs of recent years. I've always liked the way he sought consensus, as opposed to Whitlam's "crash through or crash" and Rudd's "it's all me". Howard won more elections, but he never had Hawke's common touch.

And wasn't it Hawkey who kicked off the idea of a second airport years and years back?

Having said that, I do like the idea of Bogan International. That's probably how it will go anyway, though airports tend not to have nicknames.

Bradfield deserves some recognition! He had great foresight in in Harbour Bridge! Wonder if it was built today if it would be that wide or maybe two lanes each way!!
