NAB acquires Citibank Australia

I've been waiting for the dreaded email to arrive but so far nothing. I have been using the ex-CitiPlus account regularly since the migration so is it possible that active accounts will be treated differently? Probably wishfull thinking.
I haven't received an email. I talked to NAB yesterday about another matter, and asked about this at the end and the agent knew nothing about it but said she was sure I would receive notice if it were to actually happen.

(Of course I have less faith in bank employees than to treat that as authoritative.)

Just received the email.

When I received the NAB card and account details I put them in a drawer where I put things that are there to be forgotten. . I was a NAB customer many years previously with very unsatisfactory experiences and it would be among the last places I would want to bank again.

Recently I received some government cheques. When I tried to deposit them at a local Suncorp branch I was told they don't accept cheques and to contact the payers to make an electronic deposit instead.

By chance I passed a NAB branch and went in to see if anything could be done. I gave my personal details and showed my drivers licence. My account was able to be accessed. I was shown how I could scan the cheques on the NAB app and they would be credited into my account.

I've decided to keep the account open with a couple of dollars sitting there for when any future cheques arrive.

my email also came through this morning, and apart from the already discussed changes, I noticed the following tidbit that didn't make much sense
We've also made updates to show that:
  • the NAB Debit Card will no longer be for sale

Email arrived today. A reminder to close that account as it was entirely redundant. Although I have other NAB accounts, 28° MC, UBank and ING are still my “Go To” cards for regular OS travel.

Although, probably going to migrate more to MacBank with impending UBank “Enhancements”…

Email received one hour ago. Bye bye NAB.

Edit: ten minutes later, Mac Bank a/c opened and balance transferred over from NAB.

Bye Bye NAB indeed. I'm having an admin day today so that was timely

This is disappointing, but not surprising I guess. I just looked at the Ubank alternative. I was all ready to sign up, and discovered their website is down, as is their app. Both are listed as "Full outage" on their status page :(. Doesn't inspire much confidence, although I suspect it's due to the referral offer ending today.

Working for me but UBank are implementing some additional hoops and jumps on their high interest account (if that's applicable). So MacBank might be a better option - well, until they "enhance" their products....

I have a HSBC credit card and they have said I can have an Everyday Global account so I'll open that and see how it goes
