In a Grand Final week press conference headlined by some other announcements yesterday it was revealed that credit/debit card contactless public transport fareing would not be fully implemented until 2028.

It won't be until next year when it will be available on some trains.

At least you can use Mobile Myki on Android. Tough luck if you use iOS though.
Have physical card - will travel…😔.

I might be coming up to a “pensioner” card soon….$3 still worth it!

This made me genuinely lol.

It'll be quite the competition between Myki and the QF Int'l J lounge in SYD to see who can hold out the longest before actually doing something.

I guess the Myki vendors are hanging on as long as they can.

It is a joke, given that, for example, in Chicago such has been available for maybe a decade.

Although a lot of it I believe was on NTT not willing to implement it previously and then taking time shopping around for a new operator that is willing to retrofit the existing gate technology instead of building new ones which I believe some of the operators proposed.

Delays aside - I do like the new sound from the new readers. It gives a satisfying 'ping' when touching on and off 🙃
Double ping if you’re an old fart! How embarrassment! 😂

Also possibly one of the cheapest metro options in the western world. Preload a $20 weekly pass on a virtual Ventra card and you’re covered to/from airport and all travel for your stay!

Chicago metro isn't too safe though in large part, and especially at night

…but perfectly fine getting to/from ORD and around otherwise.

Yes, homeless people seem to live in it at night but probably no worse than NYC etc.

If you are using iOS and don't have a physical Myki AND will be using it transport for more than just 2 hrs (i.e. on a $11 daily fare), you can always book a ticket from a Vline coach or train service from outside the Myki zone to Melbourne (e.g. Winchelsea), then you get a ticket (which you can add to Apple Wallet as a QR code, or print out as pdf) that covers Melbourne Zones 1&2.
