Hi all,

I flew business class with JAL earlier this month just days after it started operating a Dreamliner on the Sydney-Tokyo route. I really enjoyed the flight, especially the dining (when is that ever memorable in business class?) and the excellent service.

It really felt like I was experiencing Japan from the moment I set foot on board, which is a great way to start a holiday (and my first trip to Japan!).

I redeemed Qantas Points for the flight. Here's the review if anyone's interested in the details:

Great report! I'm thinking of redeeming some QF points soon to fly JAL from Sydney to Tokyo in J class, so it's pleasing to read their service, food and seat/bed are good.

Quick question, did you search for award seat availability via BA or something like EF? When redeeming by phone with QF, were they OK waiving the booking fee due to it not being an option online?

Did the same trip in Y recently and plan to in J next time around. Thanks for the report - definitely solidifies that plan.

I actually searched directly on the JAL website. It's a bit clunky but it works. You need to join its FF program, which is free and instant. BA is also a good option.

Yes Qantas waived the booking fee for me (they usually do so, but I think it's at the discretion of the person you speak with - so some sweet talking helps!)

Great review. Thinking about going to Japan this year so this has given me another choice to consider

Approx how much did you get stung for taxes?

Great review. Would love to fly JAL international one day. How was the cabin temperature? I've heard complaints of it being far too warm.

It was pretty warm - I like t-shirt weather at 35,000 feet but it was a tad too warm for sleeping.

Interesting, that certainly sums with all other trip reports I've read (one trip report said it was hot enough to cook a turkey which tickled me!)

I get warm on planes at the best of time anyways, so I think I'll make sure I dress very lightly when I fly with them! Perhaps a yukata?

I'm a warm slup sleeper, just a t-shirt even in winter. I'll make sure I pack some shorts with my carry on.

T-135D for me

Great review, thanks for sharing.

I found that the cabins were too warm on both my JAL 787 and 77W flights last year. I admit that I prefer to be a little cooler when I sleep, but I ended up kicked off the blanket altogether.
