Ok for context - As part of my big aaward trip with mrssimongr due to various lumps of points being in the wrong place and not being able to get a J seat from HKG to SYD we booked two one-way J seats HKG-SIN and then one one-way SIN-SYD using QFF points for mrssimongr and a return SIN-SYD-SIN flight for me using AAdvantage miles (amusingly the points cost for both awards was the but the taxes on the AA return were in fact cheaper ;)) - both awards were in F.

This was booked in Feb this year (not Sep as I advised QF009 previously).

I booked the return to SIN for some time in late august or september this year assuming I wouldn't take the flight.

Now in Sep I am likely to have to trip to NY for which I will likely use a DONE4.

I am just wondering whether there is any way to get benefit from using the SYD-SIN flight - there is plenty of F availability to SIN around the time I want to go.

One thought would be to book a DONE4 ex-SIN with a rouing something like:

sin-nrt-dfw-jfk-lhr-lca-lhr-hkg-syd-akl-syd-sin

Obviously I might slip a few other flights in there for fun ;)

If I no-showed on the final SYD-SIN flight would they go back an recalculate the cost of the trip or just write it off?

I know I am losing some FF points but I am making my life easier with the Oz domestic flights and my flight up to SIN would be in F rather than J ;)

I could also punt the final SYD-SIN flight to August 2009 and potentially have some reason to be in/through SIN between Sep 08 and Aug 09.

I have no need to go to SIN personally between now and Feb 09.

Any thoughts on what I might do with this?

DONE4s ex SIN are not that good value at AUD10151 plus tax so I wouldn't bother with using it to position for a DONE4 in SIN

If planning to fly to NRT, I would suggest getting to SIN and purchasing a SIN-NRT ticket and then starting the ATW there

But from SIN you can easily get to Indonesia or Philippines for cheap DONE4 ;)

Pity you cant change names on flights i would have taken it off your hands for you and solved your problems ;)

I would happily give it away if I could...

@Dave Noble - just thinking about that then. If I pay for a SIN-NRT ticket and do the DONE4 ex-NRT I then have to get back to NRT surely - and that leaves me in the same position surely. Which gets me back to one of my original points - if I don't complete my DONE4 will I be chased down by the airlines?

If you dont plan on not completeing your DONE4 often, ie this is more a once off situation then you could just ring the airline and explain you had a "family emergency" and that you have already returned to Australia and that you will not need the last segment, or will that just open up a can or worms ?

You use the final SYD-NRT sometime in the next 12 months to pick up your next DONE4 and so forth.

Problem I have is that I dont expect to do any more DONE4s post September for the foreseeable future...

It would be ok if I expected to but the greater likelihood is that I wont and I dont want to be stuck with the personal liability.
