Let me first explain how I got there.........
I finally received my Gold Velocity card on Friday 9th September. On the 10th September I was off to Europe for work flying Y+ to FRA on VAustralia. As we all know they only fly to Abu Dhabi and then I connected to an Etihad flight to FRA. So the flight to AUH went well and I found myself in the Al Reem lounge. Not bad although quite small compared to other lounges however considering it was midnight AUH time there was plenty of room. The only hassle was they don't call flights so I had to keep an eye on the departure screen. I took off to the boarding gate at the designated time and because I was flying that leg in Y lined up with everyone else. That took some time as they where doing a pre boarding check but in time I made my way to the gate where they were scanning the boarding passes. They scanned my boarding card (issued back in Oz) and for some reason there was a problem. The guy pressed a few buttons on the keyboard and with a half smile and in a apologetic tone said sorry but you will have to travel in business class. I acted cool and said thanks and made my way onto the plane. I could feel daggers in my back as I walked on and I am sure some people were saying why him and not me.
In a nutshell the experience was fantastic. The service from the pommie flight attendant was second to none and when they offered me a Baileys the glass was almost overflowing. Of course I slept well. The lie down seats where surprisingly comformable but I am sure I annoyed a few people with my snoring.
Next aim............ first class
