re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

Funny enough, my baby needs to cry for like 3 minutes before she falls asleep. But once sleeping, quite happy for the entire flight...

Recently did her pre-sleep cry on a recent SQ flight right before take-off in J. Was worried that others would have thought her to be a nightmare baby.

But look how happy she was otherwise :)

I have been traveling with our child since she was an infant, normally in J or F so I consider it pretty much normal. My child has just as much rights being F or J occupying a seat that I funded as the business people occupying seats that their company paid for.

In the past 10 years I have found there are often more annoying adult passengers than children and that includes flights when there are no children in the premium cabins.

I could possibly understand a screaming baby in the F cabin of a narrow-body might cause problems for cabin crew prior to departure... announcements need to be made, there's communication with the flight-deck and with the rear of the aircraft. Having a screaming baby could interfere with that.

Not saying that's the case here, but a smart FA might explain the reason for being moved is not because it was a baby crying, but because of the difficulty in completing pre-flight safety. That would = an operational reason to move.

10 minutes of screaming is excessive. I don't want cabin crew stressed when they're supposed to be concentrating on safety.

Real F or J ?

re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

My experience of US domestic F is worse than most J elsewhere!

This is much closer to the transcon J offerings in AU.

As for US Dom F flights, I've had AA flights that were way better then QF J flights, and some that were worse.

And these announcements/safety checks are also required in the lower cabins. Therefore I disagree with your argument.

Also, if there is a problem in F why should the perpetrators be moved to the lower cabins and disrupt those passengers? Apart from major infractions such as abuse or violence where there is a demonstrated need to get the perpetrator as far away from the coughpit and put restraints on the offender.

re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

I'd be crying for more than 10 minutes if forced to fly delta, too:p
Once you've had to look after children on a plane your attitude towards screaming babies changes...

The flight deck calls/receives confirmation from the front door of narrow bodies to get the 'cabin secure' before take-off. The attendant at the front door also has to be able to hear each door position call with the 'doors armed and cross-checked', either over the intercom or via the phone. The requirement to hear this is not applicable at other stations and rear doors. The front door also usually reads out any manual safety briefings... having a screaming child feeding in to the phone/mic may not be conducive to a proper safety briefing.

These are several reasons why the chief flight attendant at the front door may be required to hear more things than their counterpart at the back.

I reckon that will be an extremely tenuous argument to run...

This FA is probably a noob. Experienced FA's are actually very understanding of crying babies, and actually know the way to get peace and quiet is actually to soothe / calm the parent (and baby) down, rather than create more angst and frustration

Totally agreed.

Some think that purchasing a premium ticket entitles them to much more than what they purchase. There are bassinets in First and Business for a reason.

Screaming babies are not your problem. Learn to sleep and screaming babies won't bother you. In fact snorers won't bother you either. And learning to sleep is the easiest thing to do.

However, in saying this, some parents are conscious of how their baby affects others around them and parents who don't seem to care/want attention etc.
I would be frustrated in first class (real first class, not fake first class aka: delta or domestic travel) with a crying baby and the parents or helper were making little effort to remedy the problem.

I always take Miss TRR for a walk down the back if she's loud. 9 times out of 10 the crew at the rear are happy to play games with the baby :)

re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

The airline knew there was a baby on this booking, they took the familiy's F money. As mentioned up thread, this was apparently the outcome:

"Thankfully this story has a somewhat happy ending in the family’s flight back to New York City was perfectly fine and Delta has reportedly apologized, refunded their flights, and compensated them on top of that. They reportedly are donating that additional compensation to UNICEF, and I hope their roughest flight is behind them."

What a difference a couple days makes...

According to this article: Mom and Her Crying Baby Asked to Leave First Class - Us Weekly

On January 3, the CEO of Delta reached out to Charnas’ husband with an apology, refunded the tickets and gave the family $300 each. “We appreciated the [gesture],” Charnas tells Us. “However, it’s still not enough to make up for the awful experience we had.”

Passengers stay in seats, travel for free (full flights refunded), get compensation of $300 each and still complain this wasn't sufficient :(

Changed their tune now.

Simple just have a cry baby flight.... All seats come with Bose QC headsets!

re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

Delays, cancellations, overbooked seats, poor food, poor service, turbulence, drunks...babies.
All part of being 35,000ft in the air.

re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

The whole thing was a massive SM stunt the more you read about it. Her first pics once she landed in LA were all smiles, bikinis and dinners at Nobu.
Decided to have a rant pictured at LAX as about to fly back. All very carefully constructed IMHO.
Drooling over her bag collection though :D

Apart from the time I fell asleep, and wife threw a full bottle of water at me, I was holding my daughter and walking up and down cabin. Most people were quite understanding and my daughter would interact with some of them. Hate to say it but the crew did not seem the least bit interested in helping but then I didn't expect them to help.

The bottle of water was funny. I thought someone in the cabin threw it at me because my daughter was screaming. But it was my wife because I fell asleep and I had promised I'd help her take care of the baby. Or it could have been my snoring. Wife gets jealous when I am in deep sleep.
