Saw this on tv this morning:

Delta: Fashion blogger Arielle Noa Charnas kicked off first class with crying baby

I am a bit divided on the issue, while I understand flying with a baby can be hard and no matter what you do they keep crying, I would probably not be happy as a fellow passenger in F to have a screaming baby in the cabin. There is a reason why people fly F, and avoid being next to a crying baby is one of them.

Then again, I dont understand why one would chose to travel F with a baby, when cots and other items are equally available in J.

I'm not divided at all.

No cry babies allowed in first class unless they've paid for their own seat.

I can't remember the last time I was in F and there wasn't a crying baby somewhere in the cabin. I didn't realise I could insist they be ejected!

Baby or not, I wouldnt want to fly Y.

If pax paid for their seat (by $ or points) and their child is legally allowed to fly in that seat/cabin - Im OK with kid being there, crying or not.

Im more annoyed with the borish at the bar than a crying baby.

I think this is a Delta One flight with lie-flat seats. There isn't a J product offered on this flight (unless you want to call Delta One J, which it really is).

This is Delta F right, domestic US? So we are not talking Emirates here, not even sure the beds are lay-flat. There was a crying baby in my row flying GA J DPS-SYD a few days ago. Ear plugs pretty much nullified it for me, but there are degrees of crying of course.

re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

I will say that my advise to a friend in the past for a NY>LAX flight was to buy a extra Y seat so they have the row to themselves in Y.

Reason being, she thought she would get more room sharing a seat with baby but 2 x 17"=34", 1 x 23"=23" and she said that toddler had a good flight and was able to move around in the row.

What a disgrace - who wasn't a baby at some point in time in their lives? Hands up those who were perfect and never bawled at some point in time? What a disgrace.

Very disappointing to read.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to put up with a crying/screaming baby but spare a thought for the parents.

My daughter cried/screamed for first 6-7 hours of BKK-SYD flight. We apologised to everyone around us this might happen. Everyone was understanding. Yet on Tuesday morning SYD-BNE she slept through the flight. We will more than likely travel business class with daughter in Jun/Jul.

Why wouldnt you? When we have kids I'd much rather be up the front where its easier to manage a baby or small child... having kids doesnt mean you are no longer entitled to enjoy your flight.

True, I guess I was thinking more of the result of this lady. There would be no way she could enjoy her flight if busy trying to calm her baby down the entire flight. It would be a waste of points or money... But you dont know until you are already in that situation...

Posting before coffee this morning, never a good combo :D

"Enjoy" more in the sense of being able to move around and manage the baby; versus being in Y where you pretty much have to hold the kid the entire time as you dont have any spare space.

Storm in a teacup. She didn't actually move and the baby fell asleep before takeoff.
The DL FA should be reprimanded though for even suggesting it to the pax in the first place (if indeed that's what happened)
Mom Says Delta Asked Her To Leave

re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

In reading the article, and although eye rolling at her being a blogger, which means traffic to her site is her business... did all this happen before take off? Over a 10-20min period?

Preparing for takeoff involves strapping the baby to you with a seat belt and most babies do not like this at all - so of course bub was going to chuck a hissy. Heck, I feel peeved that Im not allowed to recline when I first sit down (and I hope JohnK is sitting behind me every time! :p).

Im trying to imagine how this went down. Does a pax think babies come with an on/off crying button that an FA could activate?

I had a crying baby on a PER>SYD flight and the baby was not at all happy. Mum looked at me, I made eye contact, she said sorry. I said no problem, in fact Im trying not to be creepy because I really want to hold the baby but thats creepy. Mum said I can hold baby anytime.

Babies cry, its what they do.

I would sue the airline if i was kicked out of a cabin that I paid for

Edit: reading the account of the story further - looks like the Delta CEO apologised and refunded them the flight!

If I was kicked out of my J seat, there will be tears.

Ugly, heaving, sobbing tears.

re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

I can't decide who I like less in that story. The so called fashion blogger that is so precious that a few minutes with a cranky baby becomes a news item or the alleged eye rollers. Sounds like a private jet might be more appropriate than F.

re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

Babies should be banned from F. Simple.

re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

Babies can use any seat paid for.Sometimes all the baby needs is a bit of distraction.many times I have offered to be said distraction and a few times with good results-ie baby stops crying when seeing this huge idiot pulling funny faces.
If not successful reassure the parent/s that it is totally normal for babies to cry especially on take off or landing-usually making sure nearby complainers can hear my reassurance.

re: Mum & crying baby asked to Leave First on DL [they didn't]

If there were two flights to choose from, everything the same, except one flight does not allow any children, I know which one I would pick!
