Hi All,

I am currently trying to navigate the wealth of information out there regarding multi city bookings and I am a little confused.

I will be flying out from BNE to Munich with a stopover in Singapore for a few nights. I am then making my own way from Europe to LA where I will be going from LA to South East Asia for a few months and finally returning home. These are the legs I'm currently trying to figure out

Brisbane to Singapore
Singapore to Munich
LA to Sth East Asia (preferrably Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi, whichever is cheapest)
Singapore to Brisbane

Currently I am just looking at point to point flights. However I am probably missing a fairly simple solution and would love and general suggestions to make this cheaper.

I am flexible on the stopover destination (must be 2 nights) between Brisbane and Munich as well. Its more just a matter of breaking that long flight up for my wife who struggles at anything more than 10-13 hours.

Any basic advice would be much appreciated, or even pointing me in the right direction.

Cheers

I had a friend who was doing MEL-IND-NYC-LHR-MEL a year ago. All the booking engines were asking for ludicrous money (something like $3000-4000 in Y!) for a single ticket itinerary. The best way was to book it as separate return fares and then get cheapo one way flights to fill the gaps. So it was MEL-INDxNYC-MEL on QF and then a return NYC-LHR on DL plus a cheap one way from IND-NYC with some other airline (can't remember which). Got it down to just over $2000. You just need to make sure that the connections aren't too tight when you are flying on separate tickets.

So, the first step would be to try booking BNE-SIN return as a single ticket. Since you want to stay in Singapore for a few days on the way there, that connection isn't an issue. Careful on the way back though. If your Europe to LAX flight isn't booked yet (or is refundable) and you don't mind about going back to SIN again, then just book SIN to MUC return and Europe to LAX return. Anywhere else you can just look for cheapo one way flights on LCCs if need be.

Hope this helps.

Any particular airline? Have you looked at multicity bookings via the airline website? Otherwise, travel agent would be a good bet. Or perhaps Expedia offer a multicity booking system.

For a trip like this, I would probably visit a decent travel agent, they will likley have some decent RTW fares they can offer. then go away and do some research, about individual tickes/ returns etc.

Ie bris to SIN return, then a SIN to Munich (possible return?) then SIN to LA (with thai? (to get the trip to asia)). or combos or multi citys. but for this flying I would think a RTW type fare would be the cheapest

Thanks for the advice, sounds like there are a few decent options to explore moving forward.

I looked into the multi city booking option mentioned above, using ITA matrix and it really does have some amazing prices on offer. Just over a thousand dollars to get to Munich from Brisbane with a 2 day stopover in Singapore.

Ill then pay for internal Europe flights which should be fairly cheap, use points to travel from Europe to the US. Finally, found a similar deal of just over $1000 from Los Angeles to Brisbane with a 3 MONTH stopover in south East Asia.

Very happy with the results really. Approx $2500 (and 50,000 velocity points) for a fairly details RTW booking.

Cheers once again for your tips.
