Hi all,
would someone here know how to make a multi city booking with mixed fares (e.g. sale outward and flex return)? there seem to be only 2 options on QF website, lowest fare = sale (upgrade not possible) and flexible = flex. When I have a day flight, I am ok with NOQ but would love an upgrade possibility for a good sleep on a night flight.
thanks in advance.

separate booking each way with different fares?? Or does the fare change or are there complications?

Hi NZflygirl, if you do separate booking it will be treated as one way booking thus, more expensive. Calling as suggested by Benjy will attract 60$ booking fee.

Call. I did exactly the same thing last week (H flex fare mixed with an S saver) and there was no way of booking via the QF website.

Inform the agent that you cannot book it on the website, and they should waive the phone booking fee.

Oh stink! I didn't realise QF played that way.

Yes - they did without asking. Not sure if it was status-related or not :cool:

Terrific, I shall follow your track to book my next flight then. thanks Galah.

Was looking at making a similar booking yesterday, they offered to waive the booking fee without being asked.

I'm going to have to ring up because of a different problem with the useless multicity booking "tool" - multicity booking obstruction more like. I want to fly ADL - SYD - AKL - LAX return, but because the useless "tool" automatically puts me on the 8.30am departure between SYD and AKL it won't let me book ADL - SYD on the same day because none of the flights would arrive early enough. So I patiently change the SYD - AKL departure time to 16.15 and then try to "modify search" so I can get ADL - SYD on the same day as SYD - AKL and hey presto the useless thing has automatically put me back on the 8.30am departure to AKL again.

I know I have to overnight in AKL on the outward journey, but there is no reason why I should also have to overnight in SYD except that the useless "tool" doesn't work properly.

If I try a one-way booking ADL - SYD - AKL - LAX the same problem doesn't arise but the price becomes astronomical of course.

What date are you looking at? I'm happy to fiddle and see if I can convince the website to play nice.

It is very frustrating and next to useless. But I wonder if your problem is pressing 'modify search' - that will always reset to the stupid default. If you just click the 'search alternatives' under each flight segment it shouldn't reset. Unless you take longer than 5 minutes and the whole thing will start again.

My latest frustration - trying to book some pretty straight-forward J flights to Europe - stopping Dubai on way over and Singapore on return, in and out of 2 different European cities. Selected J - without fail it puts me on:

- the economy flight out of Canberra;
- the most expensive QF flight to Dubai (MEL way more expensive than Sydney for the 2 different times I was looking);
- Economy flights on EK out of Dubai.

Bordering on misleading as the cost always rose at least $1500 to get J flights. I booked one on QF/EK (double SCs made up for the cost and was worth the hassle). Chose SQ for the other. Looking at Qatar for the third..

I had problems with it yesterday telling me flights were full, called up and was told flights were full, tried again this morning thinking it was weird flights were full 6 mo in advance and hey presto it worked! Even the QF chat girl said their booking engine said it was full. Anyway, glad we persevered otherwise would have resulted in a red eye. That booking engine drives me bonkers!! I think I only have a couple more flights to book and won't need to see it again until mid 2017 - yay!!

'Search alternatives' only lets me search alternative flights on the same day. It won't let me search alternative flights on another day.

Totally agree that it is very frustrating and next to useless.

Another gripe is that if I'm just checking different options and change one tiny thing, the whole string of flights will often go back to default and I have to start again from scratch. User-friendly it is not.

Thanks blackcat. I've given up and I'm just looking at SYD - LAX combined with a non DSC YUPP run in USA :) So convenient to have relatives who have moved to different cities I've not been to yet.

It depends Domestic Australia and Trans tasman will price fine as one way flights fine. But any other international destination have a massive price for one way flights.

What legs are you searching? ADL-AKL, AKL-LAX and same return?

I was searching ADL SYD AKL LAX because when I tried ADL AKL it told me it couldn't find flights. I assume this is because QF doesn't fly that route. Possibly it was because my search was taking longer than the allotted 5 minutes that the 'tool' sometimes manages to function for before crashing. Anyway I've lost the will to live as far as it is concerned :)

That's bizarre. I only ever search ADL-AKL, but then as outright returns. There are definitely a number of issues with the Multi city booking process. Maybe a nested ADL-AKL return and AKL-LAX return. :?:

BTW when I said the 15th, I actually meant the 18th. 5, 8 very similar... :D

ADL - AKL as a return will work under 'book flights' without needing to resort to the multicity obstacle I think.

Nested fares would I assume cost more overall than if all flights on 1 PNR - no?

Ok but you did also say it was a Wednesday so now I'm confused.
