Got this email today, with a handful of local events being planned for Australia-based elite members.

Dear mrsmart,

As an elite member of the Marco Polo Club, you are invited to join us at the exciting events we will be hosting in Australia this year.

The events range from corporate boxes at sporting matches to five-star dining experiences. It will be a great opportunity to meet with the Cathay Pacific team and fellow Marco Polo Club members, while enjoying exciting events.

Have a look at our 2017 Calendar of Events and 'Save the Date'.

2017 Marco Polo Club Event Calendar

We look forward to seeing you often this year.

Yours sincerely,

Nelson Chin
General Manager, South West Pacific

None of the five or so events interested me, but nice to see the local marketing & loyalty team trying to engage. I assume this is happening in many markets at the same time.

Also included a link to a closed and unlisted LinkedIn group with the description: "This is a closed group for our Australian Marco Polo members. We aim to keep you all regularly informed on products and services as well as re-energise the communication in Australia and create a prominent local presence."

Anyone else receive this?

Interesting! I imagine CX would have quite a few Australian based members.

What are the events out of interest?

I'd say they would have plenty of AM members, though maybe not as many MPC members, and probably very few GOs and DMs (relative to QF in AU, and CX in other markets).

In each state, there tend to be two sporting events for specific games with this description: "Be part of the charged atmosphere at the MCG and cheer on your favourite team from the comfort of a fully catered private suite."

And one of these in each state with no further info: "Join your fellow members and the Cathay Pacific team for an indulgent, private dining experience in one of Melbourne’s finest restaurants."

As an MPC Gold I received nothing. Perhaps they were unhappy with my survey responses. Or it could be they used an equivalent to gcmap.com and realized (speculation on my part that) all the events are 2500 km away....

Happy wandering

As I'm sure trippin_the_rift can confirm, I'm fairly sure that kind of data intelligence is way outside the abilities of CX. The survey on the other hand...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
