Hi All,
I've been an occasional reader of the site for a while and found it really helpful (picked up a fee free Citibank Gold last year). Now my partner and I are relocating to the UK for ~2-5 years so I've been reading over your forum trying to determine the best FF program. I was hoping that someone might be able to point me in the right direction or lend some clarity to the situation.
On the way there, we're both flying PER-HKG-LHR on Qantas metal. My first leg is on FF points and hers is all paid up. Paid flights in R economy. Through our work once we get over there we'll probably do some flying (at least one trip back to Australia in the coming year and likely a few others including one to Singapore) which will be booked by our employers through whatever class of economy they can arrange. I think most of our flights would be on oneworld metal (BA/Qantas) so that is our priority choice with FF programs. With oneworld, we're tossing up between AA and Qantas and my thoughts on both are as follows:
Qantas - will earn points / status on any transatlantic flights regardless of whether they're on BA or AA; will retain Citibank card and pay off all Australian house expenditure on that so will keep earning QF points; no possible credit cards in the UK but I could get an airmiles card and then any flights we redeem credit those to Qantas; if flying QF home for xmas etc should be able to achieve 4 sectors.
AA - from what I've read better earn/burn; possibility of plat challenge with a holiday to the US; Citibank AAdvantage card; no points if on BA to US; difficulty if they start enforcing 4 sector requirement.
Ideally we would love to get to a status where we can get lounge access etc but given that is probably not achievable on our limited flying and class of flying, we're just hoping to keep racking up points to use. Are there any other factors I should be looking at?
With Star Alliance, we're thinking BMI because that will cover us for Star and also for Virgin Atlantic if we ever fly with them. Any other programs I should be looking at there?
Sorry for the long winded nature of the post but I wanted to be able to give enough information to give clarity.
Thanks in advance!
Michael
