I am flying out to Mount Isa and Cloncurry to visit my best friend.
07th Jan QF1077
10th Jan QF1078
Both flights I am in Business and the seat map is show just me and there is still 9 seats available on qantas.com both ways. I am assuming business sales are not good on the route. What is the possibility of me having the cabin to my self? Do QF do comp upgrades? Also what are some things to do in the region?

Thanks Brad

I would suggest those flight numbers are in the wrong order.

I flew in and flew out on the same day, but looks like some nice lakes from the air in ISA. Cloncurry was wonderfully orange, and has an original Qantas hangar still in use.

AFAIK there is no business class between ISA and Cloncurry.

I have done the trip once and it was a Q400

I can only speak about QF in general but in my experience they won't give out free upgrades easily, even to high-status pax, just because J is empty or nearly so.

There is the possibility that not everyone has selected a seat, so the seat map may be a guide but not a true indication of how full the cabin is

Wrong time of year to go.temperatures for those 4 days-41,38,39,40.
There is the lake(dam) out of town.
Lawn Hill fossil reserve and Lawn hill gorge are a couple of hundred Kms away but again hot, unsealed roads often impassible in wet season.
There is a mine"tour" at the information centre.I dont think the actual mine has tours anymore.
There is a great Italian restaurant Doms but they are usually closed in January.

So go to the air conditioned Buff's club.Reasonable food at a reasonable price.Mt.Isa has great beef and seafood-the gulf is not that far away.Nice mangoes as well.

41, 38, 39 and 40? Relatively mild.

We're discussing a trip to OLP next week to visit the brother in law. So similar temperatures, but we'll most likely be wrapped up in blankets. ;)

You could take a drive out to McKinlay and have a drink at the Walkabout Creek hotel from Crocodile Dundee fame
