I recently stayed at a hotel in Brisbane, which while generally nice, was severely tainted by a range of small yet extremely aggravating problems including:

Maintanence issues in the room such as the tv remote power button not working and the shower head producing an uneven, stinging spray which were never fully resolved during my five night stay

No replacement dry cleaning bags

Incorrect billing for items that were packaged with the room

Staff generally rude, belligerent and displaying a don't care attitude, including management

Poor service in the restaraunt

Room service orders missing items (all were eventually delivered)

The fact that I provided similar feedback the first time I stayed there several months ago via a feedback form, and Following the most recent stay, by email to the owners of the hotel group, from which I have received no response whatsoever

I've asked our travel people to find me other accommodation next time I travel to Brisbane, but it raises the question, what's the most annoying hotel you've ever stayed at?

Why don't you name and shame, so others can see if it was a one off, or whether or not it is a consistent theme?

There always the well known bed "bug hotel" in Brisbane as an alternative, pops up on those current affair type shows on a regular basis.

Wow, I usually never check those review sites for hotels and the like instead just opting for location and highest star rating!

Maybe I should!

You are more likely to get bedbugs in Five Star than in Caravan Parks! They travel mostly from OS, and there isn't a lot that hotels can do about them except turning the room into an Ice Hotel Arctic Circle style. I've found one at one of the higher rating hotels in Darling Harbour. I was good about it, they were too and had me moved to nuke the room, and offered me competitive accommodation in the future.

The worst place I've stayed is the "Leisure World Resort" just outside of Walgett. That's where Betty in Hey Dad came from  I was helping my mother-in-law move house, and I recall just getting in late at night on a 45 degree night to be told, "We've turned the aircon on for you" but it was the room next door. It was sweltering and the aircon couldn't cope, especially as it was in the bathroom and the hot water system was in the bedroom - this might have been a selling point in winter, but totally unnecessary in January heat. I'm just thankful she has successfully left Walgett, and living somewhere much more civilised.

.... sounds like many hotels in Brisbane really.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using AustFreqFly

I recently had 10 days at the emporium hotel in BNE. Best hotel I've stayed at in BNE by a mile.

I think if you stick with your star rating strategy - you'll avoid places like Best Western;)

I got a reply to the email today. The usual dribble about how they're sorry they sucked and that my feedback will be passed on to the relevant department. Interestingly, the email had been forwarded to the front desk manager at the hotel, who didn't seem to care about my concerns when I raised them with him in person, and certainly didn't seem to care that much when I emailed.

Oh well, won't be staying there again.

Whilst I can't say they are the worst hotels I have stayed in, and they weren't, couldn't get over the pet friendly attitude in Canada. I have a dog of my own and generally love animals, there is that subconscious itch when you see people walking their pets in and out of rooms and wondering who or what had previously stayed in yours:confused:

We've bagged the Holiday Inn (original) in Darwin on this forum previously, but I can say that annoying is a matter of relativity. Stayed for one night back in 2005 at the end of a nine-day tour from Broome where we slept in swags and bar a hose at the Bungles, did not use soap once, albeit we did swim most days. We slept in swags, on the dirt, and had a great time. However, the sense of relief standing in the Holiday Inn shower, seeing the white basin going black, the olfactory nerves returning to normal, we didn't care. It felt great!
What wasn't so great was that we weren't members of the Qantas Club, so by the time we got back to CBR after checking out and doing a redeye, we reeked to high heaven in the DRW humidity.

I wouldn't have gone back after the first stay ... The only power we have as customers is the money we pay ... walk away and give to a hotel/group that shows you they are actually interested in earning and keeping your trade
