I agree with the AM versus PM mix-up. Your regular attendees of this type of music festival are not really regular flyers. They are also likely to effected by mind altering substances...... this may alter their PM to their AM......

Maybe an am pm thing but look at the first comment on the story about TT recently changing the 11 pm flight to 8 pm.

From the reader feedback

I once flew tiger airlines to Melbourne. On the return flight, I got to the airport two hours before my flight and waited in line. After an hour (They had only two checkins open for a very large number of people) I went to a tiger staff memeber and explained my that my flight was due to close in 15 mins and had been waiting for an hour and would they be calling people forward. I was told that they knew the situation and it would be handled by the checkin staff. 20mins before the flight I got to the check in and was told that the flight was closed and my ticket cancelled due to not checking in. But if I was to pay $280 each (For my wife, 3 kids and myself) I could still make the flight. Well, a quick call to Qantas got me on a flight 1.5 later than planed but for only $80 each. Lesson learned was NEVER FLY TIGER AGAIN. I fly around 50 times a year, with 16 people doing this in my workplace. And Tiger will never get any of our business.

spot the anomolies.... I mean if you fly 50 times a year, wouldn't you be sticking to your preferred carrier for lounge access? And I have never seen Tiger offer to put you on the flight after cutoff if you pay a fee???? WTF!!!

Pity the Journalist did not put more detail in the original article, 11pm is a lot different to midnight.

There's a reference to a timetabled 11:15pm flight being rescheduled to 8:15pm about a week ago.

If that's to be believed then someone did not keep an eye on their bookings.

On Monday July 19th, TT5209 was scheduled to depart BNE at 23:05.

Yesterday, the same flight number was scheduled to depart BNE at 20:15pm.

I'm certainly not defending them for not checking. Just that the 11 pm/8 pm thing would explain what happened. But then the story does refer to a midnight flight. Very strange.

Thats a comment posted but not visible when I first posted the link,(news censor comments and it takes a little while to appear online), and is erroneous, the flight was originally scheduled at 10.35 (TT5209)

Airport: (BNE) Brisbane International Airport
City: Brisbane, QLD, AU
Scheduled: 10:35 PM - Mon Aug 02, 2010
Terminal: I

Well I've posted a couple comments on the story now but none being published. Really annoying that they put up a comment that claims qantas has 30 year old aircraft. But then claim they don't publish comments that contain a clear error of fact.

Look now, They have published some comments.. including one about the aircraft age. And I bet the people who reckon Tiger is the "way of the future" are those once a year flyers who have no idea. And certainly don't watch Airways! lol!!

Interesting that a competing news source has picked up the story with a lot more accuracy and published a response from tiger:

Once bitten twice shy for would-be Tiger passengers

Tiger Airways says Splendour in the Grass revellers were warned well in advance about changed flight times last night.

A half-dozen Victorian festival-goers found comfort on sleeping bags in Brisbane Airport's domestic terminal, after their flight to Melbourne was rescheduled to leave two hours early at 8.15pm.

Tiger Airways today said only six passengers tried to check in for the original flight, although the airline has claimed they were made aware of the change as early as May.

"In this circumstance, Tiger Airways contacted affected passengers in May to advise them of the new flight time," a Tiger Airways spokeswoman said.

"Every attempt was made to contact passengers via email and phone."

All six passengers were booked onto another Tiger Airways flight today.

Whilst not necessarily doubting the statements from Tiger the cynic in me also believes that this is what they would say in either case.

I must admit that the statement by BNE that 85 people were stranded indicates to me the communication was lacking, thats half the flight.
