According to the latest NoNews article, the good Australian dollar isn't a reason to go overseas as the airfares are still mean it costs a lot more than holidaying in Australia: Strong dollar prompts campaign for local holidaymakers | News.com.au

Council of*Australian Tour Operators chairman Simon Hills said while accommodation in*Australia was expensive compared to other countries, prices were being slashed to keep*holidaymakers in the*country. “The problem is that an air fare out of*Australia is always expensive - you’re looking at at least $3000 before you start on your accommodation,” he*said. The price war between low-cost*airlines has also led to prices for some domestic*flights being cheaper than most taxi*fares

Have they not seen the latest Jetstar or Air Asia X sale fares??? You could get 5 or 6 people to Bali for $3k, and you'll get pretty cheap accommodation once you're there too!

Typical delusional Australian travel association dribble.

Prices are not being dropped in Australia. As an example - Brisbane hotels in August are a lot more expensive than 12 months ago.

And yes, I can fly overseas (generally 2 people required) and spend 4+ nights for less than $A1000.

Agreed - I could pick up a QUEST apartment in Perth for sub $180 pn 6 months ago - now they are in excess of $220- pn.
