Mobile Phones on Planes - Business Traveller

I think the allowing of phones on planes will see cheap, portable satellite type phones reemerge, and we shouldn't necessarily think in terms of the current cellular technology. The mobile phone industry has shown itself very capable of fast adaptation and new product innovation. 2 years isn't that long in the life of an FT!

Technology is fantastic when used wisely.

If a sattelite phone has the option of making "beep beep beep beep beep beep" sounds then humans using said phone cannot be trusted.

I think the majority do NOT want them on planes. You just need to see the impact they have on people driving cars (talking on phone an texting in traffic), at sporting events where they break the concentration of proffesionals (tennis, golf just to name two), cinemas, meetings, church etc.

For those that want to use phones on planes get over it. There is a sattelite phone at every seat if you really need it.

As long as you don't mind paying a fortune to make the call though. Personally, whether cell based phones are allowed or not doesn't bother me that much.

Oh please, oh please, pretty please.

Please no mobile phones on planes.

Please, please, please.

Plane cabins are our sanctuary. Are we not entitled to some peace and quiet?

Sorry to business travellers that are in need to keep their business going. There are too many w@nkers out there that would spoil it for you.

Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep.
Sounds like someones had some traumatic experiences :D

My goodness - dredging up 3 year old topics that are still relevant today. Look its old news but my oh my do i agree. One thing i have insisted on from the outset of running my own show is the fact that the phone is only ever answered between 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday.

Nothing is ever so important (unless its life threatening which my work is NOT) that it HAS to be discussed outside these hours. Yes i have lost contracts because i havent been able to be contacted but too bad. Start as you mean to continue i say.If people cant understand that i really do feel for themselves, their family and friends

I don't think it is that simple. How would you deal with overseas phone calls? Do you push the inconvenience on someone else?

Similarly it is give and take. Someone makes a personal call during the day - not a lot to expect that they take a work call in personal time?

Obviously it is your choice how you operate your business - but at the same with the vocal pathology against phones on planes (not you personally thegurio) people are making a decision about how I operate my business - fair?

Damn these forums and how they are interpreted! I didnt mean that at all - I'm lucky in the fact that most of my work is within the same time frame, let alone anything much different so that is what its based on. And i appreciate that some people cant make calls through those hours and I appreciate that - thats why i hav eput things in place to catch all of them, if you cant organise something through either phone, sms or email what hope have you got? I really do feel for you guys, which im assuming is you Simongr and others here, that have to answer calls from OS at all times of the day or night. But as a plus you get to travel to all those places that some of us would never get a chance to visit let alone spend a few days there working and staying in the REAL world.

I must say i am jealous and i would love to exchange some through the night phone calls for the chance to go to work in some of these places. Yes i know that there will be a lot of people say that its not what it cracked up to be but guess what - neither is trundling around in Y domestically. However saying that, i do enjoy it and wouldnt change it for the world.

As for pushing inconveniences to others, i wouldnt give to my guys anyhting i wouldnt do or dont do myself no matter what, so that means that if OS calls were part of the game that i wouldnt relinquish them till they were ready for it, or i was ready to hand it over (which knowing me wouldnt happen!)
