Mobile phone boarding pass ready for takeoff

AIRLINE passengers in Australia could soon be able to use their mobile phones as boarding passes under a new scheme to be trialled this year.

The International Air Transport Association, the aviation industry's trade body, is looking at rolling out the new technology across the world, possibly as early as the end of the year.

Been there, Done that. I was part of a trial of this sort of technology with Qantas a few years ago. It didn't go anywhere then - although there was no barcode - Just a txt message with a seat number on it. It worked OK but nothing startling
 
Qantas trialed this on a few select morning SYD-MEL flights early this decade, I registered and my Ericsson T29s received a test SMS with a 2D barcode graphic.

It looked similar to this:

I actually never got to use the trial.
 
looks like the've advanced the technology and starting to think it might be viable.
