Hi all,

Looking to travel to Sydney-Barcelona via Dubai in October this year and am looking at options to fly the long leg in Y+ and the shorter leg in Y.

How do I go about booking this on the Qantas website? I've tried but can only seem to get one class for the entire trip.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Aaron

QF would not provide Y+ all the way to BCN, even though the booking may appear as if they do.

If you change to EK in Dubai, then they only have Y on their flights anyway, but you will probably be charged as if it was Y+ the whole way.

Much the same if you are offered QF/BA routing via LHR, as again no Y+ for the in-Europe leg so LHR-BCN would be in Y. But this gets complicated if you attempt to book Y+ to DXB and then Y onwards all through QF, and probably would finish up more expensive.

Thanks, yeah it all seems a bit hard.

What would be the likelihood of an upgrade on points as a bronze from flexible economy to y+?

For only 6k per leg that might be an option, although the price differential at the moment with the current sale makes it all too hard to work out what is the best option.

We could just suffer in y with the great unwashed and be done with it but after our last 2 trips to Europe in BC it makes it a bit hard to swallow. Finances at the moment mean we can't entertain that so........

6k per sector? Are you sure this is true for SYD-DXB-BCN? I think flexible economy to business on SYD-DXB is about 18k or so. And then again, for the price of flexible economy you might as well get business when there is a sale on. I don't think you can use QF points to upgrade the DXB-BCN leg (you can only upgrade flights on QF metal).

What dates are you looking for?

I have thrown some dummy dates into the QF site and have options of Y+ on the QF leg, and Y for the BA or EK leg.

Hossein_au,

Sorry, I've been looking at so many options it all melds into a great big blob of info. Should have said 18K points upgrade flex Y to Y+ SYD-DXB. It was 6K upgrade DXB-LHR.

Mannej,

I'm not sure how you are able to do that. I'm looking at depart 5/10 and return 27/10. Can you give me the dates you were looking at.

I can see Y+ sale fares for the journey to/from Europe, however that is for the entire journey. So you may travel QFA380 Y+ SYD-DXB and then EYA380 Y DXB-BCN but still pay for Y+ the whole way.

As always, any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Aaron

So the issue isn't not being able to do it on the QF site, but the pricing of the fare? Have you tried calling QF and seeing if they are able to price it differently. What you may find is due to the Y+ fare rules, you can only book certain Y booking classes which results in the price you are seeing.
