I would like to know of anybody out there who got caught in the Qantas computer breakdown on Sunday 3rd january 2010.

I flew from Melbourne to Brisbane and when I went to collect my luggage it wasn't there.

I would like to hear of anyone who's luggage is also lost and if they have it back yet.

I feel for you with this.

Have you lodged a claim with Qantas and what was their response :?:
Do you have travel insurance in the event that they do not turn up :?:

For what it is worth it is extremely rare that bags go completely missing. They normally just go on their own short holiday.

I lodged a report on Sunday.

I was told because of the backlog they would deliver the luggage to my home on Monday, but it seems it's gone missing.

Now I'll have to go through the waiting time of 7days.

I hope they do find it, it's so frustrating, I don't know if I should start replacing some of the things that are missing for example toiletries.

I don't have insurance but I think or hope Qantas will compensate me if they don't find the luggage.

Don't count on it, they will usually say that's what travel insurance is for. QF will sometime provide emergency money to buy replacement items if you are away from home.

They are normally pretty good at finding luggage, 3 times I've (or the person I was travelling with) have lost luggage and they usually get it back to you within the same day. That said the backlog will slow things down.

You may even find that the bags are sitting at BNE waiting for a courier to pick them up. (worth a phone call to QF)

Have you tried using the tracking website QF usually give you when you report missing luggage? I have found it to be a good guide as to where your missing luggage may be. If they haven't given you the tracking code on the report, a call to QF may help.

I spent three weeks in the UK without my luggage only to have it returned the day I flew to eh US when it got lost again...

As a result I now mostly travel with hand luggage only, have duplicate sets of toiletries (one that stays at home and the other in my travel bag).

Wow that's the opposite of the stars aligning, more like the holes in swiss cheese aligning

Whilst I always take a few spare pairs of jocks/socks in my carry-on, it took a trip to the US where my bag 'followed' me around a few flights behind. Arrived in SFO, picked up bag, went to re-check. Got to AC and was offered another earlier flight. Asked about bag. No problems. Got on phone and rang baggage services. 'Move this bag to this flight. You got it? yeah? ok thanks!'. Bag was moved to earlier flight from SFO to LAS via LAX. Got to LAS, no bag. Was only in LAS over night. Bag arrived in LAS 15 minutes before I flew out. I was doing a status run so flew LAS-LAX-SFO-LAX. By the time I got to LAX, it was waiting on the baggage carousel (a stopped one) directly outside AA baggage services.

2 days without more than 2 pairs of socks, jocks and 2 t-shirts was not really pleasant

heh yes. What's the saying "the only stars I sleep under are 5". I'm all for a pretty view but not a huge fan of bushwalking.

That said, I did end up on a trek in Portland Oregon once, whilst getting lost trying to find the Japanese Gardens (very pretty). Wasn't so nice hiking in the shoes I had on for a few hours in slippery mud. The views back down to PDX were stunning though

If you really need it - take it onboard. If you dont need it, check it.

thats the way it is.....yes agree QF are good.

SAA have three whole rooms full of bags never to be returned!!!!!

Usually the flights to the African interior dont turn up with luggage.........
