Missing Credit Madness [Qantas refusing Credit for Travel on Partner/oneworld Airlines]

Im

Im with you... Its so frustrating. Qantas are so good at providing a product and then later changing the terms of the agreement with no one to challenge them. The one world alliance should kick them out of this partnership if they are not going to honour the flights they say are 'partnered' airlines. Qantas think they are too big to fail... but as we all know this is not the case. The government at the same time supports them, bails them out and then we get no relief in fares etc and then even the frequent flyer program is changed and modified so many times you need to be a lawyer to understand the fine print.
I choose to fly with any other airline if I have options. But share your frustration wholeheartedly.
Yes it's a disgrace. Quite agree OneWorld should find a way of dumping them (founder member is irrelevent). Better off without them frankly.

Landed in CGK and points and SCs from two QR J flights from Europe/DOH had already posted to my QFF account before I’d arrived at my hotel! The flights over to Europe (including the IB codeshare) took a few days.

On all four flights, the QR issued BPs showed my QFF# and OWE status.

Wish I could find out what bucket my Cathay flights from HKG to PVG were! Booked on the QF website as MEL-HKG on QF then HKG-PVG on Cathay - but no SC's or points for the Cathay flights! Makes the whole OneWorld thing a joke!

QR has been very reliable for me crediting to QF.
Never had to chase one up.

Guess I just jinxed myself 🤣

Were they Biz or whY fares? A lot of discounted whY fares don’t earn on many programs (across alliances).

Y - MEL-HKG-PVG was a Saver fare on the QF website when I booked it.|

The big issue is that it seems that nowhere are you even told what bucket your fare is - when booking or when confirmed.

If you haven’t already, try doing an online claim. It could well be rejected if it was a discounted whY fare other than these…(M and L)

Did that - got a reply back saying UNSUCCESSFUL - PARTNER REJECTED THE CLAIM - but it gave no details as to why the 'partner' rejected the claim.

The whole QFF/OneWorld thing has become something resembling a lottery - except your ticket doesn't even tell you what numbers you are hoping for.

Usual next step is to email in to QFF the BPs and eTicket. Occasionally things get lost in the transfer.

Not showing fare class is on ongoing beef, especially travelling in whY on non-QF code.

Yep. Might try ringing Qantas on Monday to first find out the fare class and go from there.

The really annoying part is that when you are making the booking it tells you that SC's and points will be awarded according to the QFF terms etc and it provides a link to the partner airline earning tables.

OK well I think that I have found the answer using the points calculator - HKG-PVG doesn't earn you anything unless you have booked at least Flex Economy -

So have to pay the extra to get a Flex fare to get anything on Cathay it seems. At least you get some points if fly that sector on MU even if no SC's

The SC's and points difference for Saver vs Flex works out to

Saver QF29 MEL-HKG then Cathay to PVG - 40 SC's (40 + 0) and 3900 points (3900 + 0)
Flex QF29 MEL-HKG then Cathay to PVG - 90 SC's (60 + 30) and 6300 points (5200 + 1100)

Lesson learnt for next time!

And about $500!
Good to know though @RSD

Really need a fancy plug-in that displays SC's and $ per SC etc. when booking.

I was honestly expecting to pick up 15 SC's each way on Cathay for the Saver fare sector HKG to PVG - lesson learnt!

Some CX fare buckets have nil earning to some other ffp's for a long time (more than a decade). L class as used on LONE* RTW tickets is one. (may have changed for the better recently) Where to Credit | Where to Credit Cathay Pacific Airways Flights in L Booking Class
Airlines/ffp's sell ff miles/points/avios for cash (a better business than ramming paying pax into a metal tube). If CX wanted to pay QF, AA ffp etc some $ or more $ for a low % fare bucket to award (bribe) pax who fly with then with QF points/AA ff miles. it could. However is an agreement between a willing seller and a willing buyer. Suspect at times QF is not a willing seller to (unfriendly) alliance airlines.

Makes the whole OneWorld thing a bit of a ghost really - "earn status credits and frequent flyer points when flying with our OneWorld partner airlines! (well not really but you might occasionally - but you need to know what fare bucket you are in and we aren't going to tell you that!)"

A lot more than occasionally. Occasionally may not earn.
Exaggeration does help the debate. Need hard data.
Been a long time since all flights earned at 100%. QF is not alone in lower % (or nil) for some fare buckets.

The fare buckets can be available on both the app and the desktop versions of Qantas Manage your booking after booking (not before).

I have a MEL-SIN-KUL return trip coming up with the SIN/KUL segments on MH in a non earning category - they show as '-' whereas the MEL Qantas segments show a 'O' . There seems to have some changes as Qantas used to show these fare buckets where they would not earn.

Looking at the same booking on the Malaysian Airlines web site "Manage Booking" shows the actual class 'O'. So no earn there.

You can do similar with CX flight bookings.

Also, there is the Finnair E-ticket tool which may send a copy of your itinerary to the booking's registered email address - this shows the fare buckets for each segment.

This all basically can work because these airlines use Amadeus, so the booking reference is the same.

Really need something that shows the fare bucket before you pay so as can see whether will earn SC's and make changes accordingly if needed/want to. At least now though I know that when booking a fare to China via HKG it needs to be Flex if I am going to earn SC's on the HKG-PVG leg.
