My bags went walkabout yesterday morning after missing a connection in the US. A Qantas rep came and found me at the carousel in Sydney, informed me of the situation, said the bags were coming back on anther carrier and would be couriered to my home, and asked me to file a missing baggage report at my eventual destination (Brisbane).

So far, so good. It's happened to me before, is probably not Qantas's fault, and was being dealt with professionally and promptly - no complaints.

What did make my jaw drop was the Baggage Services leaflet they gave me after making the report at Brisbane. Glossy, informative and full of pictures of happy, laughing customers - apparently delighted at having lost their luggage!

Maybe if you have a good travel insurance policy and its on the way home and not there you may be smiling ? but i doubt it.

My experience of insurance is that there is no payout for delayed baggage at the return home

I was thinking missing completely, ie lost forever.
