Not looking good here, went from DRW-PER-GET and no bag turned up on arrival. Was told it'll come on the 8pm flight or tomorrow morning. Given an overnight kit of PJ's and some toiletries.

Did the missing bag form at GET and my baggage receipt was taken from me. Called up last night and no record of a missing bag and there was nothing in Perth. Asked what about Darwin and because it was too late there, nothing would be done.

Called up this morning, finally given a reference number and was told nothing has turned up in Perth. Asked well, what about Darwin, then a confused operator asked if I checked in there, turns out nothing on the file mentioned anything about checking in at Darwin.

So stuck in Geraldton with no clothes to wear for the purpose I'm here for, leave tomorrow to head back to the east coast (3 different sectors) and was told since it's been less than 24h since I arrived, no reimbursement will be given. Argh!

Well I now have some QF summer PJ's!

DRW again! I flew DRW-ADL-MEL with 2 check-in baggage (using the Q bag tags). QF left one of them behind in DRW but it was promptly delivered the next morning... At least you were given an overnight kit being away from home?

I appreciate this is a very frustrating situation. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I've confirmed with a Baggage Services Supervisor that they're currently working on locating your bag. They'll be in touch with you with an update soon.

Hope this remains a one off for you.

this is not a good outcome. We are limited with carry on items but in the event a bag goes missing and we are away from our home port there doesn't seem to be an adequate compensation scheme in place.

Contract this with the likes of Cathay pacific (TBH2000 immediate cash payment in advance if bag being delivered two hours later) and Swiss (USD300 paid immediately to cover the first 24 hours of delayed bag, (although for economy that is reduced to $100)).

is there a reason why essential items are not covered?

Bag was returned around 27 hours after arrival into GET (just in time for me to repack and fly out this morning)

I did have to buy some clothes to wear as I was at work on Thursday though I doubt I can get the cost reimbursed for that.

Turns out the bag made it's way with Jetstar (according to the rush baggage tag attached to the bag) in Darwin.

absolutely you can get some reimbursement for the delay!

the customer charter says that if your bag is delayed more than 24 hours you are entitled to compensation for basic items.

Glad to hear your bag was returned, and thank you once again for your patience over the past couple of days.

Baggage Services will again be in touch with you to discuss the next steps.

Cheers, and have a great weekend.

how did it go with the follow up? I sincerely hope you were properly compensated for your expenses for the delayed luggage?

please let us know if the airline has followed it's own customer charter on this matter.

plus any insight you may have to offer on whether or not they are willing to pay for delays less than 24 hours (might have come up in conversation)

Baggage services called me within minutes of the plan landing in MEL (was still in my seat at the time) and ended up sorting out some compensation that covered the clothes I needed to purchase. I had to pick up a prepaid Master Card at CBR however they weren't sure how to process this transaction. I need to call Qantas up again and arrange for it to be sent out as it didn't seem like something they were used to doing or knew how to.

thanks for the feedback that seems to be a good result?

now hopefully red roo can outline the reasoning behind the charter and why compensation only applies after 24 hours?

I got a pre-paid VISA for EUR170 when BA left my bag in LHR on a connecting flight to BRU, got the bag the same day at night

Lucky you got the PJs!

Arrived in HKG on QF127 a month ago and bag wasn't there.
Staff in HKG basically just took details and said nothing more they could do.
They said they would call me when the bag turned up.

Ended up with the bag the following morning because I called them for an update and they said they would send it to my hotel "free of charge"

Interesting night of wondering if my work clothes would turn up or not....

that is not good enough, friend arrive on QF into SYD last year without bag and from memory they got a couple hundred dollars to cover the cost of buying initial stuff.

They would have been dealing with actual Qantas staff.
I had to deal with a company it was outsourced to sadly.
