Miss out on P1 by 17 days

The team in Canberra that look after the P1s are downright rude and arrogant unlike the standard Premium desk who are fantastic.

Had someone on the "premium" desk ask me: "are you finished yet" when I was asking a question about check in via the mobile and why it had changed my pre-selected seats to a middle seat at the back for me and another middle seat for SWMBO even further back. After that I don't really think about the "premium" desk as something "premium"

On the other side of the Balance Sheet, we have had excellent advice and assistance through the Premium desk.
It's certainly a pity that this is not everybody's experience.

seriously is it worth requalifying for P1??
This is AFF and I can think of a few people who just take useless flights just to be abel to have Platinum One next to their profile.

Also waiting for the first thread on AFF where someone with 700 Lifetime SCs over 10 years has been comped Platinum One....

Unlikely JohnK, i had 3560 SCs last year and didn't get comped!

Ouch!! to both, but hardly surprising.

I feel for the OP, but if all of the credits were due in a day or 2, QF might be kind, but given its 17 days, I, like others, think its a given they wont be.

Slightly OT, I was SG with a requal date of 31 May. With 6 weeks to go, I was sitting at 1395 SC with a flight MEL-DFW-LGA booked for 26 May. I knew that the SC from the flight would get me to WP, but I also knew that there were "status issues" with AA. Given the circumstances, I knew I couldnt possibly get the card in time so called the FF service centre to ask if it was possible to be upgraded to WP 5 SC early. They said they'd escalate my request for a status upgrade and would get back to me within 24 hours. 2 days later, nothing. A week later, nothing. 2 weeks later, nothing. It got to the point where even if they made the decision there and then, I wouldn't receive the card in time, so I told them to cancel the request, and I'd earn WP in my own right. I NEVER expected that they would grant me WP status early, but they indicated it was highly likely, so they got my hopes up for nothing.
As it turned out, all 5 of my AA bookings (in F mind you) retained my old SG status despite my FF number being repeatedly removed from the bookings and put back in. Nothing the AA lounge staff did would get the bookings to reflect my new WP/OWE status which meant no F lounge access and a much lower priority when flights were cancelled which caused me to be stranded in St Thomas for 9 hours and missing 4 flights because of my "low" status.

The points however credited correctly at the WP rate.

Moral of the story is, if QF wouldn't help me out when I would have actually earned the required SC within my membership year, expecting them to help you out when you earn the required SC's 17 days late is nonsensical.

I also thought it was strange when random strangers were handed Gold and Platinum status without ever holding that status in the past.

Platinum One would be a nice gesture for someone not likely to ever get there.

Did you do any 'run'?

If not, why not ?

Only 40 SCs left to P1, I would have done it just for the fun factor.

I was short of the QF requirement by more than 40 SCs, and literally could not fly any more with my work schedule. A QF mate in FF said he would look into it, but no luck.

seriously is it worth requalifying for P1?? Granted if you naturally fly that much and get it that's good but those that try purposely to aim for it will be very sadly deluded. The team in Canberra that look after the P1s are downright rude and arrogant unlike the standard Premium desk who are fantastic.

I speak to them about once a fortnight and find them exceptionally helpful, particularly for last minute changes, missed flights, short connections, finding reward seats or finding things I've left on planes. If I were close to missing out I'd definitely do a status run to re-qualify and continue to have their service.

Simple answer to this.

Qualify by getting 3600 SC's with enough on QF metal and you will get that shiny white card.

If you dont qualify, you dont qualify

Near enough is not good enough

Each to their own. P1 has been a great thing for me. Not something I would aim for again post hitting LTG - but in 90 dom whY flights - being able to consistently get the front row of whY is brilliant. Also being able to get award seats released for three people in J on exactly the dates I wanted has been pretty special.

If my travel picks up int'l again I will aim for AA EXP rather than P1. I would rather actually fly enough to hit EXP than P1.

Obviously when I called asking to change to the next possible flight home to see my dog before we had her put down and they organised everything on the way to the airport and checked me in - I must have gotten through to a different team. Similarly when I emailed thanks their help and got multiple emails back sympathising and thanking me for my thanks it must also have been a different team.

If you are doing 90 eligible sectors, an extra 10 will get you to EXP?
