Emirates denies price misleading charges

Dubai's Emirates airline on Friday denied a European Commission charge that it misleads customers over website ticket prices.

"We are surprised at the revelations of the EU report on airline websites. Our commercial operations are guided by fair business practices and transparency for our customers," Richard Vaughan, Emirates' divisional senior vice president, commercial operations worldwide, said in a statement.

Emirates denies price misleading charges

Emirates' Vaughan said: "On our own initiative, when we were made aware of the EU's investigation into airline websites, we sought a copy of the check list and reviewed its requirements together with our legal counsel in London.

Note to Mr Vaughan, when you need legal counsel to understand your own website pricing - perhaps it is time to review it.

The 'plus taxes' on Emirates advertising is misleading, as taxes in some sectors are the majority of the charges.

The taxes also vary between airlines for the same leg, so that implies that airlines have some control over how they pass on the taxes and I believe then form part of the competitive playing field.

Also there can be a problem with availability of an eye-catching offer, when there was no real availability in the first place.

Up to today, Etihad still do this.

Lowest price available 6,400, but when we are sealing the deal, it came as now 9,900 (it was 12,000 about 2 weeks ago) for the same date and place to go.
